turn-on/turn-off Pop and it's remedy . . .
I hear a pop coming from my solo 12 inch sub (which is connected to a mono amp)
I hear it in the following conditions
When the volume transistions from 1 to 0, or from 0 to 1
When I'm listening to the radio and I go from one of my preselects to another (i.e. during that momentary pause)
When I switch sources (i.e. go from radio to CD and vice-versa), (again during that momentary pause)
From a couple of searches I've done I've seen people have similar problems and they called it turn-on and turn-off pop, and it happens when the headunit signal shuts off before the amp or when the amp turns on before the headunit has a chance to turn on.
1) Does this sound like what i have?
2) I saw some turn-on and turn-off pop eliminators for sale on a couple of sites. Would this do the trick? (I read that you can make them to but I'd rather buy them already made, they're pretty cheap).
3) Could it be anything else, I don't want to spend money and time getting those eliminators and find out that they don't fix the problem.
4) Does it seem wierd that I'm having these problems now because I have a pioneer HU, a pioneer Amp, and a Pioneer Sub. I would think Pioneer would engineer their parts so at least they'd work together? Also I had a previous set-up with the same HU and a JBL amp and a pair of smaller Pioneer subs and I never had these issues before

If your sub is beating when the volume is at 0, you probably ran the power wire along the same side as the RCA's. The power wire is interfering with the RCA signal. try running those on separate side of the car. that should fix the problem.

sounds like youe head unit cuts your signal off when there is no signal going through (like when your vol is at 0 or when there is no signal between the few milliseconds when you change tracks/presets) and then turns it back on when signal wants to be transferred again. this is done in some decks (alpine is the only one that I can think of off hand) to eliminate floor noise when there is no signal being played through the speakers. unlikely that it is turning your amp off, although you will want to check that.
this could be a tricky fix if the amps do not turn off. if that is the case as i suspect, i could not see a turn on/off pop eliminator being any help. if you can't live with it, then a creative solution will have to be used, probably professionally done, unless you are skilled in the ways of electronics

Take a look at this article and try the following if you can
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-g4G6Pg1...ech/kb327.html
Try putting a diode inline on the turn-on lead, then put either a 470uf or a 1000uf cap in parallel. This will delay the amp turning on, and should get rid of the pop. The cap has to charge up before it'll allow voltage to pass to your amp remote. What you want to do is experiment with different value caps so that the radio comes on before the amp. You should be all set.

i use to have that problem on my old ALPINE, but since i got the PIONEER in dash. the problem jsut went away. i still don't know how, but it did. as for the sub still beating when the head unit turned off, that happened to me when i was running subs on a stock head unit. i found out hte problem was that when the stock head unit was turned off, power was still being sent to the subs for some reason.
