Post your Stereo Installs... Really where you Mount amps

Alright everyone. i am about to install my system and i am screwed. i planned on mounting an amp where i usually do on teh back of the seat. My dilemma is that i want tokeep the spare. Where are you guys mounting your amps? I was planning on maybe tomorrow making a new floor of thin MDF and making a custom door for the spare. Thats all i can think of. i looked on sound and car domain for ideas but most people have fiberglass custom stuff. I will do that if i have to but i never have and not in teh mood to. thanks. if you have pics it woudl be great.

before you flame me i have searched and found nothing that helops every nice setup has the spare gone. Also if it helps i will have 2 amp a 4 channel and a 2 for teh subs and 2 caps. i have a feeling this is going to be a lot of work.

what turned you away from using the seat backs? All you need to do is slide a piece of wood under the seat fabric and your good to go. Sounds like you could keep your spare and still mount all the equipment

is it as easy as sliding a piece of wood in there? I couldn't figure out where teh zippers were to unzip to slide them in.

I am by no means a pro and i woudl like to think that i have some skills so when i do my install i will make sure to get a site up and yake pics and hopefully make a DIY for everyone who wants to install a full stereo. I hope that my trunk just looks ok. I am sure that there are other people who will be doing installs soon and are having similar dillemas to me. I just want to make sure i do it once and only once. I hate doing things twice.

yeah using the backseats is easy. If you take the seats out, or just fold them down. Look at the bottom and you'll see two plastic pieces running the width of the seat. One is a straight piece and the other is u shaped that locks the straight piece into place. Once you seperate those two, their are zippers on each side. If you need some pics, lemme know and ill go take some.

First off, Welcome to the forum!

You need to use the search button. This has been covered very effectively in another post. tons of people have chimed in with install examples in trunks and whatnot. In fact, it may be the most viewed thread in the forum's history. I'll spoon feed you a hint - I started the thread, and it's called something like - "Post pics of your trunks, amps, whatever". After you view the visuals, edit this thread and ask your questions here. But don't request people post more pics of stuff that's already in another thread, cool?

YAY - I wanna go to Hawaii, YAY. I got mail, YAY

I want an install that looks smootyh. All i care about is being able to get to the spare i know the odds are not great that a tire will go but i have to drive a shitty commute to work and i live in the NE so i want to be able to have it in case. i just want ease of install and it to look good. I know i will not get an easy install though.

I hope you mean that with humor and not sarcasm. Anyway, I was directing you toward that thread because it sounded as though everything you were hoping for was already in there.

Jeff B has a little shameless behaviour in the past
This is my setup:

It is still a work in progress. I plan on building a new box this summer with 2 10's that fits up against the back of the seat like a glove. But the amp mount come out nice. You cant see any of the wires or anything.
