Head unit Help!!! Alpine Kenwood or Pioneer?

Alright I had a Jetta.. I know the Enemy. I just bought a 2005 Civic SE last week and like me i can not keep a sock stereo in a car for more than a month, But i had an Alpine 9815 MP3/WMA headunit in my jetta that i just removed. I always Amp my head units anyways but i am debating if i shoudl sell it on ebay and get a new head unit. i have been looking at Pioneer and kenwood Excelon decks. What woudl you do if you were me? Shoudl i Kepp the Alpine or go for a Pioneer or a Kenwood?

AlienX will become famous soon enough
I would go with another alpine, 9835 or 9853, you will save with the 9835 since its last years, but the 53 has the exact same internals. Are you on any kind of budget ?

I am not really on any kind of budget but i don;t know how much i like teh alpines anymore. That is my big issue. Te 9815 was one of the best when i bought it. I guess maybe i am stupis i coudl never tune it perfectly teh way i want it. i have 2 eclipse 12" suibs and a power 1000.1 rockford amp it shoudl have pounded a lot louder than it did. i have heard of people saying teh 9835 are made crappy now and they are having issues with them. I assume that you are having no probs so i will look into it. What does everyone else think?

I'm sure u can get at least $250~$300 for it.
I just got pioneer7700 model (I debated a lot btw alpine/pioneer)
and wow, what a difference it makes along w/ my infinity speakers
it only costs $210 from bestbuy/circuit city

sony gives about a 50-75 dollar spiff(payment other than basic commission) for getting rid one of their in-dash dvd players and drop downs. so when a salesman is showing u the features on the better more expensive alpine or the cheaper sony that they double their paycheck by whoring it out. anyways alpine pioneer and other companys dont have spiff programs like this. SONY SUCKS!!!!

OK no more about sony. I never even wanted one i was trying to be nice. I would not put a sony in my car if it was given to me. My choices are between kenwood excelon, pioneer premier, and alpine.

alpine is best, pio is easiest, excelon is ok but no good reason to buy one over alpine or pio

alpine is god-like...no doubt in my mind, but if ur pushin to go brand new, pioneer 7700mp or 80mp-difference in price? about 280 for 7700, about 400 for 80mp....biggest difference-switch from 40 watts max to 60 watts max/channel, 4-volt preouts..choice is urs my friend, tough call

i run external amps anyways. I think i will most likely keep my alpine. I am not soo sure about the pioneers. Serious competition cars run alpine. So if i can not be convinced that the pioneers sound better or have better featurs than i will keep it.

If you want a good unit go with Eclipse, since you werent too concerned with a budget Eclipse makes some of the best most reliable head units for a good price, plus thei touch screen indash's are bad a$$ and they have high voltage preamp outputs, good if you are gonna run amps.

my first head unit was an eclipse. i loved it but... they don't have detachable faces. That bugs me. Eclipse like sthe eclipse secuurity network ESN.. Its col but a crock of crap if someone steals it and realizes its locked they will throw it away and steal more

Me, I like Pioneer, but I don't know about the Premier series specifically, other than the warranty is longer. Since I've had such good luck with the two Pioneer decks I've had (I gave one to my nephew), I'd go with the Premier.

The premiers usually have more options than the pioneer regular decks. One main thing is that the premiers always well usually have higher preout voltages than the regular pioneers.

Hi SpecialEd, I'm glad to see you've already got Sony out of your mind. Now for the others, this is really between Pioneer and Alpine unless you are talking about an older Excellon deck, IE KAC 911 or something, the older ones were great!! The newer ones, . That said, I saw you mentioned Alpine 9835 as to having problems - that's not true at all. Alpine had enormous success with the 9833 and 9835 this past year as far as quality control goes. However, the newer vers of the two decks, the 9853/55, they have had some preliminary issues. Although the Glide touch technology seems pretty cool, wait til they iron out the bugs from these things. I think your best choice is to scoop last years 9833. Same deck as the 9835 only without Biolite display. The biolite is a contrast setting which dramatically cuts down on glare. Personally, I think it cuts down on looks too becuas I dont' like the gray colored display. The 9833 had 512 color combinations you can set and user setting 12 - I beleive- Identically matches the red/amber color of the new civic gauges. The deck is phenominal. SQ, features, ease of use, etc. If you are looking for a simpler deck without all the bells and whistles, that will look mostly stock, look at Nakamichi decks too.

the 9855 and 9853 have that stupid roll touch thing goin on and Im not a big fan of that. Like I was sayin before, get an Eclipse, yeah no detachable face plate, but honestly how many times do you actually take the face plate off. I have never taken mine off in the 5 years that I have had my Sony Mobile ES hu (note sony mobile es was actually good gear, then sony dropped it and there stuff has become *****). So if you don't take your faceplate off its definitely worth it.

Many Alpine cda-9853 are being returned for manufacturer's defect. Mine was working fine at first then the second day it would not spit my cd out. They swapped me out for another deck (same model) and now it is fine. Otherwise this deck makes ur **** go bOOm. I <3 Alpine

I personaly only use alpine decks, but if you want the new top of the line, i would go with the Kenwood 25th aniversary deck. Has 5 volt pre-outs and everything.

thats my 2 cents

F1? Those Actually Exist? I Thought It Was Just What Alpine Used To Fill Space On The Inside Cover Of Their Catalogs. I Mean Even Their Rep Told Us To Not Worry About F1 Stuff. Damn!

You can special order it through a couple alpine dealers. Its similar to what Rockford did with the RF products until the Powers became top of the line

how much you pay for your f#1 stuff. Its expensive as hell, and as awesome as it sounds and looks, even I am not going to pay that much for a small increase, plus road noise screws everything anyways. Oh for those of you that dont know Im the kid(21) with a 2000 Benz SL500 and a 2005 civic as a project car, to put that quote in perspective.
