JL Audio Stealthbox question...
JL Audio Stealthbox question...
I am thinking about purchasing one of these boxes for my civic....http://jlaudio.com/stealthbox/civic.html . Has anyone ever listened to one of these. How do they sound and what amp do you recommend for this. I really use my trunk a lot and this would really help out. Thanks for your help.
I spend way too much time on this website

you can also buy on of these (click here) and use whatever sub you like...
funny thing about either set up is that it hides the subs but you still will see the amp unless you mount it to the ceiling of the trunk or under the floor... but that might make too much heat

OTOH you would know you get a properly matched sub/enclosure with the JL system. If you don't want to go into the “business” of fiberglass fabrication this may be a good solution for you.
As the other posters said you can get DVD’s covering that subject if that is what you desire. You can get 2 DVD’s for $67 @ http://www.caraudiohelp.com covering custom speaker fiberglass fabrication. When you do it yourself you can better match the enclosure size with the subs….

^i would email or call JL and ask them if the w7 will fit that stealthbox.
but i dont think a jl w7 would love to be in that box? that looks like something for ppl who just want little boom boom without sacraficing trunk space.

I know what you are saying...
I was looking at the dimensions of the box and I don't think there is enough airspace in that box to get the full potential out of the w7. I know a guy who makes cabinets and he said he can make me any box I want as long as I give him the dimensions. I may try to design something like the stealth box just a little bigger so it will take the w7. I was given 2 PPI amps and I wonder if those are still good. They were supposedly very good amps back in the day. What amp would everyone recommend for the w7.

I have the stealth box in my coupe. It takes up minimal room, matches the carpet really well, and the woofer is high enough to not get damaged by stuff in the trunk.
As for sound, you need a sub amp that puts out a clean 250 watts rms. And it will sound like a 12W3 in a properly sized sealed enclosure, clean tight bass, but not extreme by any means. A 12W7 would sound louder but require more space and more power. It is a great compromise for good sound with little loss of space.
