Escort-Passport-8500-X50

http://www.buyradardetectors.com/Pro...500-X50-B.aspx

i would like to know if would this unit be just as affective if it were mounted under the passenger seat or on the foot area of the passengers feet instead of the mounting it onto the windshield? i ask because im pretty sure a police officer would judge you different if he or she were to pull you over and see a radar detector on your windshield. first thing they will think is "radar detector eh? not this time buddy...".

i dont care if its useless, watse of money, etc, i just need to know if it will be just as accurate if i were mounting it onto my front windshield instead by mounting it in the passenger foot area so the officer will NOT spot it.

so the front of the unit has to be facing the front of the vehicle while the same goes for the rear?

if thats the case, would placing it in the console underneath the radio be as accurate? i was thinking maybe it can fit flush and as soon an officer signals me over, i can hide the unit with the factory lid cap heh

anyone have any other ideas?

It needs to be in line of sight its that simple. You really won't get good recpetion if your going to mount it under a seat or under the deck. Its just pointless, unless you wanna go for looks. Tint doesn't affect the radar that much, but certain types can to a varying degree. Now if you really really wanna get one and mount it under a chair or the deck get a cheap one. Don't waste your money on a $300 radar detector that you won't really put to good use.

If your worried about a cop seeing ur radar when u get pulled over...thats rediculous. I've had cops look at my radar detector and not even care. And if I get pulled over and I have the radar detector on my windshield it take 2 seconds to unmount it and put it into my armrest. He won't be able to know if you have tint. Just to remind you radar detectors are legal in every state. Soo chill out get the damn thing and mount it on ur windows and have some fun speeding.

i've been pulled over MANY times with my valentine 1 (not for speeding of course) and been let off, imo it doesnt change the cops opinion on writing u a ticket or not.

Some states its illegal to have one right? Well if its illegal to have one once a cop signals u pull it and throw it somewhere. In cali they are legal cuz mine has gone through its start up while a cop was standing next to me because he wanted to hear my engine or some crap.

hmm interesting. i was trying to place myself as the officers position and i assume officers wont give you a chance without a ticket if u have a radar.

its kind of something like: lets say you love your honda automobiles and your a officer. you pull over a ford mustang that has a sticker of a guy pissing on a honda logo, wouldnt u go kinda harsh on him and give no mercy?

^its only illegal in VA i beleive. other 49 states is fine. but radar jammers are 100% illegal

even though it is illegal in some states certain ones can still be tracked . for instance if u use maybe a cheaper cobra a cop can track it by using that vg2 technology so they can actually track your speed and if your using a radar or not. if you use the 8500 or like a valentine 1 they can not be track that is the benefit of having one. but then another downfall is that in alot of areas now they are just using a smaller form of doppler radar that lets them know everything before your radar will even go off. actually by the time your radar goes off those cherries are already lit up. the 8500 though is nice cause it can be sent back to escort to be reprogramed. so it is a pretty descent investment.

Basically what everyone said is pretty much correct. From you loc, your in california. Radar detectors are not illegal in california, so it doesn't matter if you have one or not.

If the cop caught you for speeding, he won't be less inclined to give you a ticket compared to someone with a radar detector. To him, you just someone to meet his quota.

Hiding the radar detector will reduce its effectiveness. Tint with metallic fibers will reduce its range as well but not by much. I have titanium tint all around and i can still detect cops at least a block away with my Beltronics X65 if there using there radar. Just remember they actually have to be using there radar for the detector to work.

All the upper end radar detectors come with vg2 immunity stock, but it doesn't matter since radar detectors are not illegal with the exception of VA and i think Washington DC. Tracking you with the vg2 or using POP on you is not emissable in court, they have to use the radar on you to get a tracking history to be able to use it in court.

So to answer your question, if your going to hide it, dont bother getting it. I would suggest getting the beltronics X65 though, since the Escort 8500 X50 is a clone of the x65 but more expensive. The x65 already comes pre-programmed to detect Ku band, which is the new band of radar there going to move too and using in Europe already. The 8500 can be upgraded to detect it but isn't stock at the moment. Chp right now only uses Ka band, which is the mainstream band at the moment.

good read on radar detectors. Make sure you enable you POP detection. Cops like to pop first then use the radar.

ive done more research, i decide not to hide it. but im still thinking for ideas on how i can hide it behind my rear view mirror/passenger visor fold so it wont be as visable fo the officer as he walks up to my driver side door.

i have set a purchase on the escort 8500 x50 in blue for $280 *ebay heh* http://www.radar-detectors.com/produ...rs/default.asp and hope it benefits me as i hope it will. but i am now having a hard time understand the bands X K, KA and other features such as POP. can someone fill me in? sorry, i just got interested in radar detectors 2 days ago cause i relized im getting one too many tickets

Yea that website has all the info you need on learning about radar detectors and what all the bands mean, and what pop means. They also tell you a whole bunch of other stuff too. If I were you I'd get the beltronics rx65 on ebay I paid 240 shipped to my door and its exactly the same as the 8500 x50 but it has KU band for and it also has a voice that talks to u
