I dont really know a whole bunch about subs n stuff so i dont know what i am going to get i have had many diff suggestions like 2 jlaudio 10w6 or should i get 2 12 Alpine R's please post me with more information on which ones i should get thanks a ton when i get them installed i want the trunk to look like this install http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=205765

It all depends on what your budget is? what your goal is? SQ or SPL??

Right now I have an infinity reference 12", and it does the job pretty well. I'm probably going to end up getting a JL 12w3v2 or an infinity kappa 12.1 sub.

If your deciding between the W6 or the Alpine type R's, I'd go for the JL.

from what i read the jl w6's are great. the alpine type r's are compareable to the jlw3's. BTW shmik1 is selling some type r's on here.

yeah i have heard that they were good also - i went to cartoys and i tryed out those subs n they sounded good but the guy was a jerk and said that they werent workin or w/e and i went to best buy and i tryed out just one alpine and it sounded really good what ever yall recommend will help

alpine type r vs jl w6 id go with the w6 no thoughts about it. In car audio forums ive read a lot about the brahma from adire audio. You should look up more info about those subs.

10's are punchy and 12's can hit the low bass pretty good. although it can differ from brand to brand. adire audio, image dynamics, diamond audio, and resonont engineering have some great subs. i just posted a list of good and shitty brands in the ICE forum.

well thats what i want is the low bass cuz i like to listen to rap but i really dont wanna pay 500 for the 12w6 and then the alpine is 200 for the 12

for rap you don't even need really a good SQ sub. what's your budget? i'd seriously consider adire shiva's. they should be better then the type r's and are pretty cheap. check out cardomain too. they have image dynamic factory renewed subs for $70 a peice with 90 day warranty. awesome deal for good subs.

The Shivas would be plenty for what you want. Conversely though, everyone is sold out of them, and they are back order due to the Mark IV (I think, might be mark III) version about to be released. The demand is so much greater than the supply at this point, it's pretty much futile to sugest that sub, unless the person doesn'tmind waiting, or chancing ordering on Ebay.

As for the 10" vs 12" comparison. The 12", most of the time (always when staying within brand, and product ilne, ie JL 10W6 vs 12W6), has the ability to play a tad lower in the frequency range. They also have more surface area, and move more air. Output will have different characteristics when compared to the 10W6, especially if on a sound board off of an identical amp.

The 10" plays a little higher, but can keep up with punchy, or fast paced bass lines a tad better than the 12" sub would. Most of the time, the 10" is used in more of a rock listener's vehicle, or in applications in which the primary concern is SQ over output.

Being as you're a fan of rap, either would be fine, as both will play the frequnecies used in most rap music today just fine. I'd say a pair of 12's over a pair of 10's, just because it appears to me that you're a tad on the output side, vs SQ. However, comparing the W6 to the type R is like comparing apples to oranges. It's more of a preference thing. Personally, I'd go for the W6, if those are your two options only.

If you're willing to go outside the box, I'd scrap both of those and go after either Image Dynamics IDMAX's or a Brahma from Adire. Either of these would adaquately fill your desire for bass as well as the two you listed. And more than likely, both would be cheaper than the two you listed.

I bought my RF 601S off sounddomain for $250. (best buy was still selling it for about $360+ at the time)

the type Rs are 300rms each. so you'd want 600rms @ 4ohms if you get 2 typeRs (dual 4ohm, if you get 1 type R get dual 2ohm and you'd want 300rms @ 4ohms)

the type Rs were more than enough at about 1/2.. so est 300rms was loud enough for me

I have 2 JL 10W6V2s. I think you'd be happier with a 12 if all you listen to is rap or pretty much all. You will miss the lower frequencies from the JL especially considering they like relatively small enclosures. For Rap I'd say go Adire Audio Shiva but I think people are having a hard time finding them now since Adire doesn't sell online anymore the Shiva.
