Weird Stereo problem... help please!

Okay, I have quite a strange problem with my stereo. I just installed a new Alpine CDE-9845 head unit, and has been working fine. I just recently noticed that when increasing the volume, the bass and treble will suddenly drop. At volume 22, the vocals are at medium volume, and the bass is semi-loud. When I turn it up to volume 23, the bass drops down much lower, and the treble lowers. As I turn it the volume up more, the treble and bass seem to increase as they would from volume 10. I have a 4 channel RF amp (P4004) and a Punch Stage 1 subwoofer. I do not believe that the problem is that too much power is going to the subwoofer because I've had it much louder. Any input will help, thankyou.

I think that head unit only has 2 sets of RCA outputs, correct? If you have a 4 channel amp make sure you plugged in the RCA leads to the correct channels. Maybe you might have mixed them up and the sub is running off the front output and playing through the front channels settings (HPF, X-Over, etc.) Check that first.

Also be sure to set whatever channel your sub is hooked up to to LP, it might be set on HP or Thru. And set frequency cut off to about 150Hz This could cause that problem,

Good Luck

The cutoff should be set depending on the system. There is really no way any of us could shout out a proper cutoff point and know it'll work properly with someone else's system. Things like crossover points, slope, gains, they are all dependant on many factors for each system.

Wild Rice.. I tried all of your solutions, no luck, thanks for the input. It may be the gain level, I know how to do it, but i'll probably go and redo it in a little bit. Thanks for the help, and still if you think of any other possible solutions, let me know.

True, But that's why I said to about 150 Hz for the Sub, Set it to around that point and go from there.

Is this one of those head units that are supposed to be wired directly to the battery for power? Are your subs and other speakers clipping at the high volume levels?

Head Unit does not need direct power, it's just a normal head unit. And no, the volume is fine, nice, clean and loud. It just happens that when getting louder, it's like the bass goes back down and starts going up from a very low level.
