Once your radio breaks connection with your battery it
locks itself. It just blinks "code" waiting for the
rightful owner or a auth dealer to enter the code.
but i am sure people have a way around this.

When I used to do car stereo installs for a living, I talked to my Alpine rep about them manufacturing stock cd players (They manufacture a good percent for a good number of cars, Land Rover, etc...) He said that the reason that the car CD players aren't as advanced as the aftermarket ones is that when the company manufactures headunits for cars, they have to do it 5 years BEFORE the car is set to he released. So the radio for a 2005 was invented at least in 2000, often times the things had been R&Ded many more years before, as Honda doesn't change their radios very often. Actually, did you know that Alpine has a $25 Million Dollar one fo a kind state of the art research center facility? They put their products through all sorts of hell and various testing against electrical interference, light seneitivity, durability, acoustics, temperature testing. Its actually highly advanced. Check it out here.

Yet I tossed in a Clarion HU and everyone thinks I have a sub in my ride. My Si/EX hasn't got one speaker upgrade in it...just the HU.

dunno but they sound great....Clarion can make anything sound nice..lol.
seriously...stock tweeters, stock doors and rear deck.....EVERYONE thought I had a sub in the car and love how it sounds inside.
clarion makes the stock am/fm radio found on DX civics
the stock alpine cd player sounds like crap. if it was true that it's crap just because they predesign those things several years ahead, then why do the 5th generation prelude stereo sound waaaaay better than a stock civic system?
when comparing my civic si(usa ex), with a friend's stock 99 prelude stereo, it can be easily noticed that his system produces way more bass and much better highs than the stock civic stereo w/ stock tweeters.
i think the civic stereo sounds like crap just because honda cheaped out. btw, anyone ever notice that the Philips EQ chip inside the civic deck has a loudness function but honda never enabled the feature. you should be able to control bass/treble then also have a loudness function.

turboslug...it's a civic, im sure honda's last concern was to make the sound system top notch. If that were the case, they wouldnt have stuck lx/dx's with am/fm radio's or tape decks. Don't bother comparing the prelude to the civic, the prelude was aimed towards a much different market, and it will out-perform the civic in just about every category except for gas milage and trunk space.

if what he said was true, then shouldn't the 7th gen stock cd player be up to par with the 97 prelude cd player since the 7th gen civic cd player design should be roughly 5 years newer than the prelude one? like you said, the answer is no because honda cheaped out because the civic is mainly an econobox. it's not because of the technology available at the time.
the 1.7el is more proof that honda cheaped out. the 1.7EL is supposed to be a luxury sedan loaded with bells and whistles yet honda still used the same crappy civic stereo.

I dunno..I got my clarion a couple of years ago and I'll hold onto it for awhile..I'm not looking to build a system. Just like it to sound nice and it does. I don't know who actually made the OEM deck but I can't even find mine anymore..lol
