Do Imobilizers work during remote start?

I have a question, say my car is in remote start mode.

When I enter my car I put my key in II and drive away, is the alarm / computers ecu acually verifying the code on the key against the code on the engine?

No. It is not authenticating the key when your car is being remote started. You must bypass the immobilizer when installing a remote start. If it is installed properly, this shouldn't affect the security of your car. If done incorrectly, you can disable the immobilizer completely and defeat the immobilizer 100% of the time.

Just reading the title, no immobilizers don't work while being remote started. If they did, you wouldn't be able to start your car. ALMOST all newer cars 97+ require some sort of bypass.

Heres a little more detailed information/scenario for you.

With the immobilizer unit, the remote start usually has to have an additional unit added to it that can be programmed from a key, or holds a key itself. when the car is told to remote start, the little box sends the transmitter code to the car, tricking it into thinking the key is inserted, and allowing the car to start. technically, if your steering wheel was unlocked, someone could drive off with your car while is is remote started, good alarm systems use security methods which kill the car when the brake is pressed or the door is opened. all the remote start is doing (if installed correctly) is tricking the car into thinking the key is there.

This is assuming a correct remote start installation, who knows, there could be some questionable shops which simply circumvent the immobilizer methods all together (which is not all too common on hondas, bus has been done in the past, usually on GM vehicles with the passlock system) but that isnt standard installation procedure.

Hope this helps!

You can get transponders for under $20 from www.Selectproducts.com that allow you to bypass.

you can also use another coded key and install the key under the steering wheel near the ignition, that should work too

I thought with remote start in the imobilizer cars you had to give up that feature.

nope.

but yea, sorry, the ecu only checks the key prior to starting. Once the motor is running, the ecu knows the key was in the cylinder to begin with...the ecu doesnt know that the key isnt in the ignition, therefore it will not check for it after the car has been remote started.
