Help with new audio stuff
So i've been doing a lot of research on audio stuff for the civic and have definately decided on the alpine 9833. However, i'm still undecided on the front speakers and what amp to use with them. I know that you are supposed to match the wattage on the speakers and amps, but do you match the RMS or Peak? Also, if i plan on running the speakers with the amp, the amp should be a two channel one, correct? Would it be more wise to get a multi channel amp to run the 2 speakers and a sub if i decide to get a sub later, or would it be better two have two amps, 1 for the speakers, 1 for the subs? Sorry for the long post, i just have a lot of questions about the stuff i've read.
btw, i listen to rock, punk, and acoustic stuff and don't want to go crazy spending tons of money.

Assuming you would be adding a small sub <400W, or no sub in the future:
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, buy a 4-channel amp that can be bridged. That way, if you want to add a small sub later, you can bridge your rear channels and add your sub.
Assuming you would be adding a large sub or two subs in the future:
Get two amps. Large subs really need their own amp.

Oh yeah... about the RMS versus peak thing, just make sure your max on your speakers is about 120% of the max of your amp. I have an amp that exactly matches my front speakers, and I've had amps that were much less than the speakers could handle, and they both sounded great.

in general, it would be better to have speakers that can handle more than the amp could give? right?
also, the 6.5" speakers i've been looking at do not seem that powerfull~40-70Watt RMS. with an amp of equal RMS as the speakers, would that be significantly louder/cleaner than the stock system?
thanks for the responses

yup, its also sometimes good to just get an amp that is rated higher then speakers, and just turn down the gain. This way you reduce noise and distortion, but put some risk on blowing them.
Another thing about amps is that MOST of the time they are underated. So if an amp is rated at 200 watts RMS then all the amps that company comes out with will not be below that rating, and most of the time at 14.4V you can sometimes even get 250-270 out of an amp.

First, I'd replace the stock fronts and amp them, then I'd add the sub later. Doing it in reevrse (sub first, components second) might not yield the result you want. You can get a set up for that amount yes, but it'll be low end, unless going used.
My suggestion:
Adire Audio Koda's in the doors for midrange and mid bass frequencies (yes, there's a difference)
Tweets of your choice (you might want a strong/harsh tweet like an infinity for loud/powerful high frequencies) I personally like the Image Dynamics NX30's. But that's personal preferece (plus they'd be a budget buster for you).
Crossover crossed at the frequencies you desire.
2 channel amp such as a JBL or something of that nature good for about 75W rms per channel (or 100 watts per channel if you want to spend the extra dollars).
You could also go with that set-up except get a 4 channel JBL that pumps between 40 and 75 watts per channel and run the sub off of the remaining two channels bridged (for somewhere b/t 80-150 watts, depending on which amp you get). And run an Adire Audio Shiva 12". It'll run off of very small wattage, and still pump away. Don't believe me, go to their site, they have a video of it runningperfectly foff of 60 watts RMS (yes, 60 watts). www.adireaudio.com
Depending on what kind of deal you can dfind on Ebay, you may could get all of that for under $300, save wires of course.
MSRP? here's a breakdown:
Adire Koda 6 Mark II $80 direct from Adire www.adireaudio.com
Adire Shiva 12" $125 direct from Adire www.adireaudio.com
CDT TW-20SLP Tweets $59.95 www.thezeb.com
JBL BP150.1 (Renewed) from Sound Domain $59.95 www.cardomain.com/shop (for the sub)
JBL P80.2 could be had for around $35 or less on ebay (here's one auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...758216348&rd=1 )
-OR-
JBL CS50.4 $149.95 at sound domain www.cardomain.com/shop (could get for around$100 on ebay more than likely)
You could get the Shiva for around$75-100 on ebay, as well as the Koda's for about $50-60, and the CDT's for about $30-40, along with the first two amps together, or the third one alone. Ebaying would keep you under your budget with this setup, and it should please you for a while. Then, later possibly get a larger amp for the sub to push it a little harder. ither way, one of those setups should satisfy your needs.

Adire products are reputable. They were originally a home audio company, someone had a bright idea one day to try one in a car. It worked so well they told others about it, and then Adire expanded to the mobile side of audio/electronics. There are lots of members here that have (or have had) their product. I haven't seen any one that has said anything negative. I've been pleased with the adire product I've owned as well as the adire product I've installed fopr others. I've never had one problem personally, nor has anyone I know. Sure, there are lemons in everythin in life. I've just never heard of one from them. Maybe others here can give their testimony as to how well their product sounds, and the reliability/durability of it. There's more background info on their website, I just tried to cliff notes it some.

thanks for the info, it's just that their site didn't look to professional. but if multiple people like their stuff, they must be doing something right. i'll look into trying out there stuff. btw what have you owned/installed of theirs?
I have the 9833 and I dont have an amp on my speakers and its fairly loud. Consider the Alpine amps also. They are expensive but they are awsome. I have the MRD-M501 powering one 12" sub and it hits. It does really well with the higher freq bass but can be tuned to any freq...

as long as you cross over the speakers and great rid of bass you will have nice clean sound. Thats how I have it setup right now, 9835 powering all internal components crossed over at 85hz or 100 I dont remeber and the sub slightly overlapping at full cutoff at 125. I have rocks all around and rock amp powering the subs, great sound, hard bass and wicked highs. Now I just have to get rid of all the ratteling.

if you like alpine stuff, I will put the SPX-177R component speaker on the front with MRV-F540 or MRV-F340 amp....the bass you can have JL 12W3 sub with alpine MRD-M301.. and for me, I don't use any rear speaker on my car..because it doesn't matter with the audio (expect if you have DVD and watch movie inside the car)..hopefully can help you

I have never understod the rationale of these types of threads. People ask for suggestions, and go completely off kilter with their selection. Why ask in the first place if you're not going to listen to the suggestion. Thanks for getting me to waste 20 minutes looking for sites and auctions.
