Help me set my Parametric EQ
Help me set my Parametric EQ
Well I have a 3 band parametric EQ on my pioneer DEH-P8 and I got no idea how to set it, I read the manual and its just confusing. I listen mainly to drum and bass music with a bit of rap. Everyone says "oh just tune it to you ear" well everytime I Try and mess with it I either dont hear a difference or think I Hear a differenec and cant really judge which is better.
Perhaps I need the right song to tune the **** with? something with a consistant beat or something?
thanks guys

Well mine has a 13 band graphic eq so that doesn't help you. But really you tune to your ear. Get a cd with a bunch of different songs you like and go through each one. Try to tune for an average that will work for many songs. Turn each band all the way up separately and see if you like what it does. Then set it all the way down and see how that sounds. If you like what it sounds like, turn it up past the middle a bit. If you don't like how it sounds, turn it down past the middle. See where I'm going with it?
the best way to tun your parametric eq is with an RTA (real time analyzer). what an RTA does is point out where you have spikes in your frequency response, and you can adjust your eq (boost or cut) at where you have the spikes to try to flatten out the response. most people do not have access to one though because they are very expensive so thats why most people tune them by ear. a thing to try to remember when tuning a parametric eq is to keep the "Q" which is the amount of octaves that each band covers as wide as possible. this will assure that you are not over emphisizing any certain freqencies and ruining your reponse even more.
