they dont really decode anything.. i lost it as well, what they'll tell you to do if you go to the deal is. remove the radio from the dash, bring it into the dealership. the parts department will take down the serial (to make sure is not stolen) and then send the serial to the manufactuer who then retrieves your passcode for that sterio.....luckly my g/f just bought me a new sony for valintines day lol so i didnt have to go threw that trouble.
When I bought my car the dealer set up an account for me at: https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=honda
It has all my info there. The VIN, and the radio code. It also has a section to record mainanence and stuff. Check it out. I'm not sure if when you create your account if it will put in the radio code by your VIN or not but its a nice site and I recomend people to go there and set up an account.

Look in your trunk lid
On mine when I open the trunk there is a sticker on there with I think the VIN and it also had my radio code printed on it

do theives even bother going for our crappy oem cd players?
I dont understand why Alpine and Pioneer dont put the same simple code techology into their heavily stolen decks. Eclipse is I think is one of the few companys that needs a code cd or something to use the cd player again.

Why are people pulling the deck for the serial code? It can be displayed on the front radio display when the deck has the theft lock enabled. This is straight out of the owner's manual. Steps... 1. Turn ignition siwtch to accessory or on. 2. push pwr **** to turn on the audio system while pressing the preset 1 and 6 buttons at the same time. 3. you will see the first 4-digit number on the display for five seconds, then the next 4-digit number is shown for five seconds. That's all there is to it.

The head unit needs to be powered by ignition. Thieves do not find out the unlock code prior to stealing the deck. They steal the deck first, then try to unlock it by obtaining the code from the serial number on the label. The head unit is not part of the immobilizer system.
I realize that. It just seems extremely passive of Honda to allow anyone access to your serial number. Anyone who gets into your car. Valets, mechanics, etc. I'm not saying that it does or doesn't result in theft. It just seems rather Passive. Other manufacturers like VW do not allow you access until you take the HU out.
