Alpine CDA-9853 or CDA-9855
Ok, I am planning on buying a new headunit pretty soon. Right now I have the eclipse CD3424. I want to hook my Ipod up to my head unit and from what I know Alpine is pretty much the best way to go if you wan to hook up your Ipod to your Head Unit and be able to control from the head unit. I narrowed th esearch down to 2 head units, but I can't decied which one to buy the CDA-9853 (which comes out March 7, 2005) or the CDA-9855 (which comes out May 20, 2005). What do you guys think I should do?

None of these sites list the new receivers yet but I'm sure they will. I bought my CDA-9833 off Etronics for a good price. These sites are all comparable on prices, but some offer cheaper or free shipping.

Honestly... Alpine 9835. Bought mine on ebay for 330 or so shipped take at look at the options (more powerful too 26rms vs 18watts). It'll run the ipod

i'm looking into the same decks !! LOL.. but I think i'm going to get the 2004 model since its cheaper. I dont see much spec diff between last year and this year to really pay the extra buck.
Right now i got a sony which is going up for sale..

Crap thats a deal wish I didn't already have my deck

compare it to the 9833 and 9835, almost identical to the 9853 and 9855 except the glide pad.
Hit me up with a PM or Email on those Alpine LCDS !!!!

Dont forget about the wattage as well... big diff. (for those of us that dont run a 4 channel amp)

Alpine hasnt officially released specs for those units onto their website yet, however i'm pretty sure they are the same as the 9833 and 9835, just with the glide strip and some updated firmware. EQs and amplification should all be the same. The new interface updates look promising..icon based.
If I were you I would go with the 9855 simply because of the BioLite display which I have on my 9835...it kicks major ***. Alpine may be keeping the 9835 and 33 around though...if you check out their website the MSRP of both units has gone up $50.

Also, if you are spending that much money on a headunit, why not buy an amp that will take advantage of it's features instead of using the crappy internal amp? THe HU's run better with their internal amps shut down anyway.

Does anyone know if the Alpine CDA-9855 needs a direct fused connection to your battery when the receiver is hooked up to your car because of the high-current draw (kind of like the Alpine CDA-9835 needs).
It's most likely the same internal amp, so whatever the 9835 needs so will the 9855, however mine is not hooked directly to the battery, and my OEM harness has been fine with it for almost a year; however my internal amp is not active.
