what key features should i look for when purchasing a amp to power a speaker?

RMS power output. make sure it matches what your speaker can handle at the correct impedence. make sure its a reputable brand name, check that the crossover will do what you want, make sure you like the look of it, then make sure you can afford it. when you have it narrowed down to two or three, post on here and ask if anyone has used the amp and go from there.
