which is better

1.) 1 amp powering 4 speakers and a sub

2.) 1 amp powering 4 speakers and a mono amp powering the sub.

your decision will either make me ditch my mono amp or buy a new 5 channel one.

Depends on how much power is needed for the 4 speakers and the subwoofer. If there is enough power to all 5 speakers, you can go with the 5 channel amp. If more power is need to either the interior speakers or the subwoofer, it is safer to go with 2 seperate amps.

IMO I would go with the two seperate amps.

Regularjoe is on a distinguished road
I would always go w/ 2 amps. Otherwise w/ 5 total speakers and only 4 channels, some speakers are going to have to be doubled on a channel. When you do that you loose the ability to set the speakers at different levels w/ the amp gain.

the question of which is better is subjective, but my opinion on which is better would be 2 seperate amps
