question about wiring
i spoke to a tech guy who told me that i could run 8gage wire from a distrobushing block to two amps. after searching, i found people saying that its better to use 4gage to run amps. whos right?
Technically, both. Depending on the amp of course, but for the most part you'll want to use at least 4awg wire to run from the battery to the trunk. Once your in the trunk, however, it's usually ok to use 8awg if you want. The difference is in the length of the run. The 16 or whatever feet from the battery requires a heavier guage. From the block to the amp, only 2-4 feet, can sustain a smaller gauge.
In my car, I still used 4 awg from the batteries to the distribution block and 8 awg from the block to the amps.. the distance of wire from my batteries to my amp is about 10 inches haha But I just used 4 awg for more show. I could get by with 8 awg and not experience any problems..
But in a normal situation, yes using 8awg from block to the amp is okay. But when in doubt, go bigger because it won't hurt it if there's overkill in how big the wire is.
