Component speakers recomendation
Component speakers recomendation
1st i just wan't to say that I did a search before I asked. I've got some ideas. I am on a budget of about 250 max for the front speakers, I'd like to spend only 200. I have been looking at INfinitys. Ive been loooking at the kappas and the prefect, the kappas have better frequency response though, whats up with that? ANyway, am I on the right track here wiht the infinitys and if so, which does anyone like better Kappa or perfect? Thanks in advance.
If you don't mind doing a bit of modding (spacers, possibly cutting a bit of metal), don't worry about fit, unless you are getting a REALLY REALLY deep speaker.
I haven't looked at the specs for the Kappas and Perfects, but I'd wager what you mean by "better frequency response" is that the Kappas have a frequency range that goes lower. If this is the case, don't worry about it. You are going to be filtering those frequencies anyway when you add a sub.
What music do you listen to? That will help you get a better list of speakers.
I use JL Audio VR650-CSi and like them a lot. I got them off Ebay for around $175. I've also heard great things about CDT CL-61a. You can get those from TheZeb for $150. There are other good speakers out there, too. Someone else can list others.

Hey, I have had both the Perfects and the Quarts in my car...both would involve some modding to get in the door holes if you buy the 6" versions.
IMO
Quarts:
+Can get very loud with moderate power
+Amazing highs, very clear and detailed
+great midrage
+Tweeter protection, and great crossover
-Horrible installation instructions.
-poor midbass
-Some people think that the tweets are "bright", but I like the tweets...and that is what the tweeter adjustment is for.
Perfects:
+Detailed and warm midrange
+Very hard to make the Perfect distort (not so with Kappas)...can take power, and then some...you will have a hard time blowing these.
+Best looking comps I have ever seen, and the tweeter installation kit is the best IMO.
-Will take a lot of work to get the tweeter to sound right (placement, placement, placement). Installation on these speakers will either make or break how these speakers sound (with the quarts, you can pretty much put them anywhere and they sound the same to me). The Perfect tweeter may be too harsh if you aim it on-axis, But if you put it too far off-axis it will not blend in right with the mids...you will really have to experiment before you install.
-Needs a lot of power to get 'em going.

i like crystals and some of the focal line, but hey, thats me. I would recommend going and getting a cd that you know VERY well, and take it to a bunch of different stores and see what components sound the best to YOU!, what i may like (smooth tweet, lots of mid) you may not ( you may want a harsher tweet)

Totally agree with you on everything you've said about the Quarts. Especially the liberal tweeter placement - you could hang them from the ceiling and get no different sound. In my old car, I had my q series tweets in the sail panels sounded no different than when they were in the kicks. Definitely needed the tweeter adjustment though. But amazing sound.
Awdag you should look into CDTs as well, I've heard awesome things. Can't remember if its the CL or the EL I've heard raved about though.
