"Bass Boost @ 40Hz"
When it says that, and you have a **** to adjust the dB, that is only adding increased volume at 40Hz, right? So if a signal comes through at like 60 or 80Hz it won't get boosted, correct?
False, it all depends on the slope of the boost. But the boost will be focussed at 40Hz.
On the Pioneer this is what is referred to as the Q I believe. There are Wide and Narrow settings, etc.
Wide might boost like this:
20Hz - 2db
30Hz - 3db
40Hz - 4db
50Hz - 3db
60Hz - 2db
70Hz - 1db
Narrow might look like this:
30Hz - 1.5 db
40Hz - 4.0 db
50Hz - 1.5 db
This is similar for crossovers. They are all rated at how sharply they roll off and cut off the freqs. They commonly will be be 6db, 12db, 18db, 24db, etc ....

I see. So those db's that are listed for each freq. in your example, those stay relative then, right?
So,
30Hz - 1.5 db
40Hz - 4.0 db
50Hz - 1.5 db
with more boost might look like
30Hz - 8
40Hz - 18
50Hz - 8
Why did they decide to make the boost at 40Hz? And how much do you guys turn yours up? I find that it doesn't sound very good turned up. My lows are already loud enough.

Remember, everyone has different ears!
You could look at it like your both right. Good speakers dont' NEED that stuff to have great response but it CAN BE USED to customize the sound to your ears.
I've got a friend who had his ears boxed by some punk kid when he was 13. He can't hear anything above 3khz. Everytime I get in his car I'm like, ahhhhhhhhhh please bump those tweets down!

Great response and good sound are two different things. Response would be measured by equipment, it doesnt mean its always gonna sound good. My friend has Focal components in his 3.2 TL, technically they have a better response, but I think my quarts sound better.
