****new question*****

On my headunit wire harness i have an orange/white wire that comes from it that says- dimmer.

On the wiring harness i bought (that plugs into the stock one and connects to the head unit) it has one orange one and one orange/white one both coming out of it. the orange/white one says dimmer and the orange one says illuminaton.

if i hook the orange/white from the hu to the orange white one it does not dim. but if i hook the orange/white one to the orange one it dims.

i just dont wannna blow my gauges like i did in the past. 500 dollars down the hole! so if you could tell me how you did it, thanks

****** on the back of my hu i have a place for input and it is a round circle and has prongs in it. i wanna hook a dvd player up to it and i dont know what type of cable i need for this. help me out.*******

UltimateWarrior is an unknown quantity at this point
I just installed a new HU and I didn't connect either wire to anything because my HU had an automatic lighted background which is always on. (When the radio is on that is) I think those dimmer wires are for some HU that have those features, not sure. Mine didn't. That's all I got man, hope that helps. Also, the blue/white wire I think was for a power antenna which didn't apply to me either. So in total, I think I had three wires I just capped off and didn't bother using.

If you are not sure, does the manufacturer of your HU have a tech support number?? I had to actually call to get my questions answered, that's why I know.

it shouldn't matter which one you use but if your scared of frying the lights then use the orange/white with the orange/white becasue nowadays (if thats a word) everything for every car is universal with that stuff.

i found out that orang/white to orange/white allows you to dim it using the **** in the cluster and orange/white to orange dims it when you turn on the headlights

i've never heard of the dimming with the headlight before because most HU's i've installed didn't have the plain orange wire and the ones that did, i did orange/white to orange/white. with the O/W to O/W you should be able to dimm the HU with the little **** by the speedo. but the O/W to O sounds correct but i wouldn't do it.

Power ant. connects to the same color wire on the harness...blue/white stripe. And I have a correction, on my old HU I connected the ow to ow. The new one doesnt have the option to dim with the switch in the cluster, just with the headlights. Thats the illumination wire.

DrivenConcepts should not be trusted
its so when you turn on the driving lights your radio dims just like your lights on the ac or clock or emergency light

if your asking if its going to damage anything, no, but the dimming feature probably isnt going to work right.
