just got a Clarion DRZ-9255, pics...
http://slickssite.com/9255/
for those who dont know, its Clarions flagship headunit. no mp3, no satelite radio controls, just good old SQ
gonna have to find some time soon to install it, gotta run a power wire from the battery for that DC to DC converter, damn thing is big, gonna have to find a good place to hide it to.

CD8053, no internal amplification, 8volt/16volts balanced preouts, 10 band parametric EQ, adjustable crossover, time alignment, blah blah blah.

well, they have 8454's also, but they wont be doing great deals on them like the 8053, i guess there arent that many people wanting no internal amplified decks.

listen to moby - south side in 320kbps mp3 and then listen to the original on the cd, there is a lot of missing info in the mp3, my jaw dropped when i heard the difference the first time, made me thing of what i was missing in other songs.

i think the 8454 has the mp3 harmonizer feature, something that "adds" more info to the track and makes it sound better, i dunno how it works, but i had it on my 8053, and it made mp3's sound better (just slightly, nothing major).

I saw your post on the Car Sound Forum...didn't realize you were a 7th Gen member.
The Clarion dealer here e-mailed me yesterday and told me she finally had a DRZ9255 in stock for me but I can't decide if it is worth the money. I love the simplicity of the deck but an 8053 is sweet also and for so much less. I could get an 8053 & the AudioControl DQX and have all the flexibility I would ever want for less money than the Clarion. BUT...I loved the original 9255 and this one looks just as nice....tough decision. By the way, the rest of my system is DLS stuff...amps, speakers, subs.

i'm loving this 9255. after listening to more cd's, and switching from 48khz sampling to 96khz sampling, i can hear differences in sound (good differences). its a great deck and for what i paid, its definately worth it.
the eclipse is sweet to though, if i couldnt afford the 9255, i'd go for the 8053 or similar, nicest unit i see for the money.
remember, the 9255 is limited, wont be around for long

oh, just luck i suppose
guys at the shop are nice to me, i buy a lot from them, i normally just pay a little over cost so they make a couple bucks on it. $800 is not far from cost on that unit.

Out of curiousty... could you not have got a similar deck with more features (retaining the features that you want) for around the same price? Or am I just misinformed (or not informed at all) about current products?

hurtz, the deck is not only a deck, but a status symbol
granted
if i had the money, would i run it? maybe.
im sure it sounds a bit better, but im also betting that the bills this man threw towards the deck also influenced his hearing, and he cant debate that because he has absolutely NO way of knowing

its definately a status symbol. price was appealing to, getting a $1400 deck for $800. some of the features and specs not found on most average decks was nice to (96KHz sampling rate, 24bit burr brown DAC's, copper plated chassis, etc.). its also part of my addiction, i like car audio and i am always trying new things.

one of the guys on the car audio forums (i think he's a member of all of them) has been using eclipse decks for 10 years. he recently switched to the RF 825 (aka denonford) and he loves it, he previously had an eclipse 8053. for the price, it just might be worth it to give it a shot.
