did you buy it used? or steal it (j/k i hope)?
i ask because i have the gen after that (x869) and mine didn't come with the security turned on. there is an option through the menus that you can enable a code to be inputed to turn it on, so i would contact the original owner to get that code. or else, you would be kinda screwed, although trying 1296 different combinations would unlock it

Well there is obviously something that is storing the code in there, which would lead me to think there is a battery that keeps it in there when u take power from the deck

Lol, you can't reset it. That's the whole point of having security. So either you stole it, or someone else did and you bought it off them. If you have the key code and serial # that comes with the unit new, kenwood can probably fix it if you send them the deck.

No one is going to unlock a locked deck unless you have the Kenwood Passport card. Its the card you get when you buy the deck. I have a Kenwood deck, and got one. It has the serial number on it, and that might be the only way for someone to unlock it. Plus if you take it to a shop, they probably wont do it for free. If you take it apart, wave bye bye to the warrenty if you still have one. Or like someone said, start trying the 1296 codes, and let us know what happens.

yeah remember those first nintendos? how they stored your zelda scores? that's kinda how this works. i'm sure there's some sort of little battery or capacitor in there storing enough juice to hold that in memory, but that would be a bear of a time deciphering. and unless you are really damn good at soldering small components, you aren't gonna get it back right.

Most radios now use a flash chip. No battery or capacitor. Impossible to get around unless you have the right tools and know what code is in the chip.
