I don't knwo who told you alpine hu's don't last long but they are very reliable. I have a couple of friends that have had theirs for like 2 years and treat them like sh** and they still function 100%. Alpine amps are top of the line, The sub will probably last a long long time on that amp, that sub could probably take 500 rms daily. They are also very good sq subs and can get loud in a ported box.

First off, Alpine products last a while, very reliable, I only use their HU's (currently have the 9835, absolutely awesome but overkill for you at this point.)

Second, their subs are definitely not SQ, the best sounding one would be one of the TypeR's, and those get loud, but arent very SQ oriented. They dont sound bad though, just average.

3rd, their amps definitely arent top of the line, but they will get the job done well, and last a while. They are in the same ballpark as JL, Phoenix, etc.

Like I said above, as far as that HU is concerned, if you don't have aftermarket speakers, and are just going to be running one sub I wouldent go for something so top of the line. All the features on it wont do jack **** with stocks. Save $300 and get a 9827 or similar unit.

they are not top of the line if you compare them to zapco or something like that but for circuit city or best buy equipment or out of the main stream brands like mtx, audiobahn, infinity, etc. Alpine amps are pretty top notch, ("in their class")
