Unnecessary. The wiring harness you will buy will plug onto the factory radio plug. Match the colors up on the new harness to the ones on the new radio's harness. Wire them together, then you plug them into the stock plug/harness and radio respectively.
you can go to bestbuy or circuit city...if you have an alpine, pioneer, jvc, sony ccity will have a harness to your car and the headunit so that you just plug the two harnesses together, therefore you don't have to solder any wires together or use crimps

Wiring harness should come with the radio. There's a seperate harness that you connect to the stock plug. Buying one of the one's at circuit city saves you the 5-10 minutes it takes to wire the new harnesses together. But, usually, it costs more. It doesn't work any better, but it saves a little time.
