size for front speakers (opinion)
should i go with 5.25 for the front or 6.5...
Im not concerned with power increases with going for a bigger speaker, just wanna know for reasons regarding fitment and stuff...lol
Im debating over Alpine type-r component sizes...so help me please!!!!
also does anybody know if their 6x9's sound good, the type r's that is???

on a coupe the fronts are gay 6.5s stock, i put some infinity 6.5s in and it sounds great; had to bend some metal though.....and remember to use short screws otherwise windows doesn't go down (learning the hard way)........when i say short i mean like no longer than 1 inch or so
yea the fronts are 6.5"s. I'd say go for the 6.5"s although most aftermarket 6.5"s will need some modification to fit, it will be worth it.
also, i think the rears are 6x9's but 6.5"s in adapter plates would be nice.

6.5 front-6x9 rear
I got 6.5's on mine Audiobahns, the whole speaker won't fit on the hole, you can make a bigger hole to make it fit, but if you don't wanna cut a bigger hole somehow you could put 3 or 4 screws to get the speakers mounted, the speaker will have about an inch height from the metal frame, but you can make it fit under that plastic cover...

a 6.5" speaker gives you like 30% more cone area.... read: around 30% more bass.
also can get a little lower. components will be your best musical option, but there is a little more install work with them. searching will help you out a lot, some speakers are tougher installs then others.

you don't need to waste money on components in the back...
any moment someone will tell you you don't need rear speakers anyways, so here is the warning. but remember it's all preference, some people really like having rear speakers, or use rear speakers as midbass

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, in the COUPE it's 6.5 in the front 6x9 in the rear, in the sedan it's 6.5 all around. Almost any 6.5 will fit with a spacer, and a 6.5 does not give you 30% more bass than a 5 1/2, that all depends on the speaker charecteristics. I've heard 5 1/2's with more midbass than a 7" speaker.
If I were you I would leave the rear speakers stock, or disconnected, and spend the money on a good set of front speakers with an amp.
just cut a 1/4 or slightly thicker mdf piece that you can mount the speaker on so its spaced farther from the window. Just trim it on the bottom right corner so the door panel will fit over it. Also when i first got into audio i got some alpine 6.5 type s in my old civic and they sucked. I think the wierd stock plastic speakers are better which isnt a surprize. most cars come with higher quality speakers than most of the low end audio speakers. I recommend chooseing something better than the type r you wont be impressed with it.

thanks for the advice audioefx3, which would you recommend for the same price...I did have a sample of the type r components, I thought they sounded pretty nice....for the rear, I'd like to fill it with some a nice high/mid sound....cuz if I have passengers won't they be basically overwhelmed (spelling???) with the bass from the subs, and almost no mids or highs? or would the front components fill that void good enough?

i tried them and they really sucked
ok, lets say i'm going to buy type r comps..
will a 6.5" type r produce significantly more bass than a 5.25" type r?
i'm thinking of installing 5.25" type r's because then i might not need to cut the sheetmetal on my door...
also, i want bass from my speakers because i dont want a sub...

Who installs component speakers to get bass?

i wouldn't spend much on the rear fill really.
6.5 components up front and 6x9s in the rear.... fade your stereo all the way to the front and slowly fade it back just till you hear the rear speakers,,, then set the balance about 2 to the right passenger side. This will give you a nice concert sound and eliminates a need for a center channel. this is how my old system was set up at the car stereo shop and the stageing was perfect,,,,if you do if right you should have a hard time finding were the music is comming from when sitting in the drivers seat. No need to spend alot on rear speakers but the best for the front that is were the imaging is.
I had a set of type r 6.5" components in my doors and they sounded nice. You need a spacer ring to bring it out from the door tho. Now i have 7's in my doors with no problem which are even deep then the type r's.
As far as the type s components go, in the past 2 weeks i've instlled 2 paits in 2 different s2000's and they sound awesome. The type s was redesigned and is just as beefy as my type r's. The type s also come with a specific spacer for the civic that allows them to pretty much bolt right in.
