checking amps

just a quick question if anyone knows

how much amps should the remote wire be pulling?
i have been having problems with my system, and for some reason its pulling between 15-20 amps which seems like alot to me because thats how much my B+ wire pulls

i know this because it blows 15 amp fuses, but not 20.

any thoughts?

And also, how much would a multimeter cost with the ability to test up to 50amps or so....mine caps out at 10amps and the fuse blows.

How many watts is your amp?? Who did your wiring to the amp? Double chech your wiring. Also where is your remote wire connected, to the radio? or do you have a kill swith for the amp?

each of the amps use 8awg wire from the batt. JBL300.1 and RF 201S

i installed it all and it is wired corectly.
the remote isnt connected right now, cause the remote-out on the deck is blown
and it keeps blowing the acc fuse

someone told me the amp is 1-3 amps?
sound about right for the remote wire?

I blew the fuse in my remote wire once. If I remember right it was 1 amp ... maybe even 0.5 amp ....

remote wires shouldnt be pulling more than .1 amps. the remote wire on pioneers maxes out at 200 mA (.2 amps), and ive seen people run 3 amps off it.

well this is my new theory of what might be wrong...maybe there is something wrong with the B+ wire and the amps are pulling current from the remote wire...cause it wants to pull just under 20amps.

sound logical?

Since my remote is blown the my deck...would the acc socket be the best place to hook it up?

B+ wire is the battery/power wire....runs from the positive terminal on the battery, to a fuse, then to that terminal on the amp to give power....

You have a short somewhere man. Thats the only reason the remote wire would want to pull current. Seriously.

short would be inside the amp or somewhere in your install, also, what gauge wire is your remote?

well the deck remote is not working anymore...but the rest of it is
the remote wire was really thin, probebly around 22 awg or semething
but i used a 8awg wire when i hooked it up to the batt.

i have 2 amps...and they both do work...so i dont think the amps are shorted...maybe the wiring i guess...not sure

22 gauge can NOT take 15 amps of current over 20 feet

thats like sucking a basketball through a garden hose
