XM Antenna Install Question
XM Antenna Install Question
I'm about to buy the XM Roady to install on my '02 LX Coupe. Everything looks pretty straightforward, I'll use the included FM mod for now and upgrade to the Blitzsafe connector later, assuming I like the service. The only thing I'm not sure about is routing and mounting the antenna. The way I see it, I have three choices: Front roof, rear roof, deck lid. Which do you suggest? I'd appreciate user's pics of different installs as well as hints on wire routing for each option. As far as I know, if I decide to go for a roof mount, the wire is supposed to be hidden along the rubber at the side of the glass...opinions? Also, I have a toll road transponder atached inside my windshield, behind the mirror, will that rule out the front roof mount because of possible interference? Opinions on aftermarket (thru-glass) antennas are also welcome. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.
Mine is on my trunk lid, and I get occasional dropouts in areas where landbased repeaters are not installed. For instance, on one side of the mall, within 100 ft. of the building I get no service because the antennas view of the satelite is blocked, same thing happens in certain areas of the city where there are tall buildings. However if I go to Boston (I live in NH), where there are reapeaters, I get service inside underground tunnels. The roof is the best place for reception, however some people have luck with them inside the car on the rear deck. I will be moving my antenna to the roof once I get it painted to match my car, because the drop outs can be annoying.
As far as the toll road module, there will be no interference.

ive never tried, but heard of people mounting them up on the dash down close to the glass with pretty good results too. I mounted my wifes on the roof havent yet lost signal.
Had the antenna inside on the rear on the old 02 turbo bug we had and didnt have any problems with receptions.
I havent installed it yet on my car just becuase of the atenna, i hate the look, im still trying to figure out what to do. I have all the stuff...
