Using a False Faceplate with video Unit?? Can it be done?

I have a 2004 Civic LX and I will be installing a Alpine 1006 video screen in the front. I am very afraid of getting it stolen and I like the idea from the previous threads about recessing the unit using the factory brackets and putting the false front on. My question is, can this be done with a video unit? No one had mentioned using a fold out screen when recessing the unit. Will the unit be too far in to have the screen clear and the faceplate fit? If there is anyone that has accomplished this please let me know, any help would be appreciated.
