It seems like all decks are getting more weird looking, except for eclipse and high-end pioneer. As for Sony, I've heard nothing but bad things. Even though some look good, they don't perform well.

sony has dropped in quality in the car audio market the past few years. i havent been impressed with any of there new stuff.
my local audio shop owner used to love sony decks, he still has his old c90 from many years ago, he said it was one of the best sounding decks, but he wouldnt touch any of there new products even if they were free.
sony makes good stuff for home audio, there portable audio is good, and they have nice tv's and computers and such, its wierd to find that there audio line is so horrid.
look elsewhere is all i'm saying.

I have the sony MEX-5DI and I have only heard negative about sony on this site. Everyone else I talk to likes their sony products. I love mine. It's a sweet HU and has great sound quality. I got a sweet deal on ebay regular $1,000 got it for $550
I have never heard any good things about sony auto. I had one deck along time ago and it was HorriblE!!!!!!!!!!! I will never buy another one. I had a few friends with sony decks and they always skipped. Its your money, just do a lot of research.

yeah.. I agree. Sony car audio is not the greatest. One time this guy in a stereo shop was trying to show off his sony deck and his system. Not only did it sound bad. The sound was distorted and the bass coming from his subs sounded like crap. He had all sony audio in his car BTW, including sony subs. The guy was trying to sell my a sony deck, and at the time I knew nothing about car audio, but I did know that his system was garbage.
Later that year, I ended up getting an alpine deck. The alpine was ok, but buttons kept breaking on me. They wouldn't fall of or anything like that. They would just stop work on me. The tilt thing got stuck several times. After that, I don't really trust alpine either. Alpine is ok though.
Now I have a JVC deck. I must say, I'm very suprised at the sound. I have a lower end deck (not top of the line). The sound from this JVC is better than my old Alpine deck. I'll probably get flamed for this, but this is my opinion. If your not looking for something too fancy, but does the job. Check out some JVC decks.

anyways, JVC makes some decent stuff, kind of like when sony made the c90 deck or whatever it was, sure that deck was great but most of their other stuff was crap. Sony sold out when they went from the mobile es higher quality to the lets market our stuff with an Xplode and then people will think it's cool!!! Too bad people aren't that stupid, the only thing that xploded was their reputation, it will take YEARS to get it back, if they ever do
I work in a shop, and we never like do dis anyone elses gear, but when anyone asks about
Sony, we say "well, they make great TV's" and that usually gets the point across. There HU's suck, the speakers suck, and the Xplod amps do just that, explode. Save your hard earned pennies, go into a high-end store and just take listen, you'll forget about the JVC's, Aiwa's, Sony's, Blaujunk's and Rockfords within seconds!

. Sony just plain sux!!!! I have had a sony xpold HU for going on 4 years now. I listen to it hard and loud everyday. I think it has skiped about 2 or 3 times the entire time I have had it. Granted I am no audio pro but I can definately tell a crap system from a mile away. People have to take into consideration the install job and speaker/sub/HU matching before they can make a blanket statment like "sony sucks."

I'm not blanketing anything, but i can say, from my experience, I had a last generation's ES line of HU. I twas great at first, but it started skipping very badly after about a year. It wouldn't even read some CDs sometimes, new, old, or burned. I got rid of it and an doing well with my current Pioneer.
