woofer blown?

what are the symptoms of a blow woofer? I have infinity components installed in my front doors running off an 80x4 amp. For about a year now, they have been sounding great. my dad borrowed my car one day and as a joke left the HU turned practically all the way up, past the point of distortion. besides doing a good job of wakin me up in the morning, i think it blew my driver side woofer. At first is wasnt that noticable, but the woofer started cutting out more and more each day. If i turn it up almost to the point of distraction, it will start playing again, or if i put on a song with alot of mid bass. Im going to pull off the door panel on friday to take a look at it. could it just be that the wires worked themselves loose? any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

well most people would say it is your amplifier. Depending on what it is, it could be too powerfull, or your settings could be wrong on the amplifier.

I would say loose wires if it's cutting in and out and the amp is staying on.

yeah check for bad connectors. anytime i use the wires speakers come with i end up popping the door off to fix it again. solder those suckers on there.

maybe one channel of the amp is bad. Switch the left and right side and see if the passenger one cuts in and out when it is switched.

most likely something is wrong with the woofer itself

Sounds like it has a seperated voicecoil. Theres no fixing it, if thats the case tho. Its an internal issue.

Check wiring...
Usually a blown woofer will have a tiny scratching sound.
