Kicks and Doors?
Kicks and Doors?
I currently have infinity reference speakers in my front doors running off of my four channel amp. What I was wondering is how would it sound if I bought some diamond components or something and put them in the kicks but left the infinitys in the door and powered them both off the amp and then either take out the rears or run them off the deck instead of the amp. Bad idea? Anybody tried this?
ive run door speakers with kicks, I got lots of cancellations. it literally killed my midbass.
however, you may have more luck than I did, could jsut be a lackluster kick install, i never designed the kics to work with door speakers as well.
In the 2000 accord, I know that door midbasses work wonderfully well with Qform kickpanels, I would assume the same for the qforms for our civic, but dont quote me on that, ive never heard for myself.

i am running quart midbass in the door and comp set in the kicks....working the kinks and xover points out now but they sound great. i wouldnt put a set of coaxials int he door and toss in some comps...if your going to do it make a correct 3 way set up.
i have
6.5" midbass (door)
4" midrange (kick)
1" tweet (kick)
did it cause thats what i had in my mustang an they sounded great...)boston 6.43) and thats whre it all fits...plus smaller speakers playing higher freaqs are need to be aimed more, so in the kick they go!!

JL makes a good set, Boston has a good set, you can make one using Quarts like i did...or you can talk to ludlam about making your own set with speakers like peerless or scanspeak.
JL is the way to go. my whole car is set up with JL and the only problems that i have had is i blew a 12W7 after 3 days and i killed a door speaker. but the sound quality is excellent. i don't have kicks just running everything in stock locations just with 1300 watts.
im pretty new at car audio and dont really know much about how to tweak sound to make it sound best because i dont know what it all means. from what i understand of whiterabbit's post, its hard to run a component system in the kicks and keep the door speaker. what about the tweeter in the door up by the mirror? could a newb like me figure out how to make the door speakers work with the kicks? i have really been thinking about gettin qforms but now i dont know cuz i dont know if i can make it sound good.
its not hard, its jsut not guaranteed to work. many people have run 3 ways and had lots of luck. there are a number of reasons I could have had the problems I did, all tuning related.
honestly, the top SQ competitor in california runs door speakers, stock locations, with holes drilled in the upper doors for his tweets. no seat rail modifications, no special install, nothing crazy, no kickpanels, no angled speakers.
all tuning. so it can be done!
