I just got 2 Audiobahn 8" subs today. I have a ported enclosure (actually an old kicker enclosure, lol). I got 8"s because I already have the enclosure, so that saves me like $80. Anyways, I was wondering 2 things:
1) is there any way to make this enclosure sealed? I was thinking removing the cheap-*** tweeters and porting trim, nailing and glueing wood pieces over those holes, and then taking some silicon and going over all the seams on the inside..sound do-able?
2) The woofer says it has dual 4-ohm voice coils, and can operate at either 2-ohm or 8-ohm. What do I need to look for in an amp? Im just confused on this. When looking at single-coil 4-ohm amps, I was thinking about 90w x2, since I don't want it all that loud. What do I need now, and since the amps have different ratings for different ohms (like 90 for 4, 110 for 2 or something like that), what numbers do I need to look at?
I need a quick answer because I'm going to try to get them installed tomorrow, and need to know what I'm getting, and what I need to get, at the local shop. Thanks.

you can seal it up like you described, just make sure the sealed airspace is correct. ported boxes are usually larger than sealed boxes.
because you have two dual 4 ohm subs you can wire them for a 4 ohm load or a one ohm load....most amps cant take 1 ohm loads so here is how you would wire it for 4 ohms. you will need to look for an amp that will put out the rms power that the subs can handle at 4 ohm x 1

wait; one question; Am I supposed to connect the + and - terminals that I'm not using? THat's what it looks like in the pic, but I want to make sure.
Also, why would I get a 1 channel amp? I have two subs, so why not a 2-channel? THat would work, right? I want that so that the left only booms for the left, and the right booms for the right. So i would just attach each amp output to each sub like you did above. I'll try to make a pic.

what I was saying is that I want a 2-channel. If I get a 1-channel, I have to either hook it up to the left or the right, correct? That might cause problems when one side has bass and the other doesnt...so I'm just going to get a 2-channel amp. I'm looking at a 90w x 2 Rockford Fosgate amp.
You do get both channels when you get a mono amplifier, it just combines the signals. So if connected like above, and a bass note is triggered to come from the L side, it comes from both woofers. The same thing happens when it comes from the R side, the bass will come from both woofers. Being in stereo isn't important when it comes to bass from subs in your trunk.

ok. I just visited the local audio shop, and got the low-down on how to hook it up. I have dual 4-ohm coils, so I hook (on each sub) the + of one coil to the - of the other. this makes it one coil, thus doubling the impedence, to 8 ohms. Then I get a 2-channel amp and bridge it. Hook up the + of the Left and - of the right. I connect the left to the positive on one sub, and then hook it up from that terminal to the remaining + on the other sub. Then I do the same with the - Right. This makes the 2 subs act as 1, thus halving the impedence, back to 4 ohm. Bheh. I would make a picture, but my Java is messed up so I can't post anything. The local place has a 400w-RMS Sony amp on sale for $200, and that is perfect (mine are 200w RMS each). I need to see if I have any monster cable left over from my home theater system though, cuz that stuff is damned expensive.
