Rep Power: 0 What amp to get?
Hey,
I already have picked out which speakers and subs I want. Now I just need to match up some power to it. I would like to get 2 amps. One for highs and one for the two subs. Here is the speakers I'm lookin at..
Subs:
2 JL 10" W3v2 300 watts a piece
Speakers:
Front- 2 JL XR650-Csi 70 watts each
Back - 2 JL XR650-Cxi 70 watts each
Added up that is 880 watts total.
600 for the subwoofers
280 for the highs.
Which amps would be good for each? The power I listed is the continuous power handling now max...
Please help, I have no clue which amps to get!

Rep Power: 0 agreed! all JL's would work for you man! i'm not familiar with those speakers, are those rms ratings? Get like a 4x40wat amp from JL or something of that sort for ur mids n highs, and for ur woofers...u can get 2x150watt JL amps and run 0 guage wire from the front to back, and split 4 guage to each of ur amps... ^_^

Rep Power: 0 if you wanna stay JL, i reccomend a 500/1 for the subs, and a 300/2 for teh fronts, rears run off the deck... also, you dont have to run xr's in the rear, you could step down to the TR or VR series.
if you dont want JL amps, find a decent 600 watt mono amp and a 100x2 2 channel, or a 4 channel if youwant to amp all of them
those jl components sound very very nice with a good 100 watts to them

Rep Power: 0 A 500/1 for each sub. Or one for the two subs? I would think a 500/1 for each sub right?
I'm really just lookin for performance, not show or anything..
Would running te rear off the deck sound good?

Rep Power: 0 I agree completely w/ Ludlam.
Rears can be downgraded and just run em off deck power. The JL amps would rock. A 500/1 for both subs and a 300/2 for the front would be perfect.
I love my JL XR's in my truck. Love the JL 8w3's too. I have them on an Alpine T200 (90x2) and a M350 (700x1).

500/1 would be good enough for both your subs, underated amp.
I wouldnt recommend running a 75 watts rms speaker off your deck (which really gives about 18-20 watts). I personally like my sound to be equal in the front and rear. Im running components in the front and rear.

Rep Power: 305 ^^^ If you want equal sound from front and rear, than that holds true, but Ludlam and I speak from a preference of no rear speakers, thats why he and I would recomend no rears, or off deck power....I hate speakers behind me.

Why dont you guys like rear speakers, could you explain.
Your only using 2 6 1/2" up front, or do you have 6 1/2" plus some kicks?
My bass can easily overpower my mids and highs. thats why i need 2 components sets.
Besides that if you have 2 people in the front, your legs will be blocking most of the sound in the front(speakers in doors), and if you had people in the back they wouldnt hear **** but bass.

Rep Power: 0 I forgot to mention I don't have the stock deck. I got the Alpine 9813. It has an internal amp. I think I will just run the back off the deck and downgrade to the TR series. I am gonna go today and buy some stuff. The speakers at least then later decide on amps maybe..

I just dont think it sounds right with speakers behind me, the tweeters create weird effects when they fire behind you. I guarantee if you ran for a month or so with no rear speakears, you would dislike having them on behind you when you put them back.
A proper soundstage will use front speakers, and still have the sound surround you. Cymbal crashes if recorded that way can sound like they are behind me, to my extreme left, or right, whatever its been recorded as. Like I said, I have only fronts, in stock locations with sealed doors and I get surround by music, even with my subs off.
Now, as far as your bass overpowering the components, you must not have tuned your system correctly, or you have subs that are capable of more output than your speakers or something. My speakers are never overpowered by bass, and rear seat passengers always comment on how loud it is even though I have no rear speakers.
Since you'll probably ask, at the moment I have two JL12W3v2's, running off two JL 500/1's at 8ohm each, and MB Quart PSD's 6.5"s bi-amped off a PPI PCX4125 (250 watts per side to my fronts)

Rep Power: 0 I ended up getting a 300/4 for the highs. I will amp the back. I just got the TR series for the back speakers instead of the XR all around. Got XR in the front though.
I also got the 500/1 for the two JL10W3v2's.
I just went all JL figured it would be sweeter.

Rep Power: 0 What type of box do you suggest? I was thinking bandpass and have it port out the rear deck so it hits the window and comes forward. Do you think sealed would be better?
I'm doing the whole install myself. I hope you guys were right saying the car has 6.5" speakers front and rear. I got the 6.0" for the back cuz the guy said they are really 6.5" not 6.0". He said they were oversized 6.0".

Rep Power: 306 downsides can be:
uneven frequency distribution- it gets really loud at some frequencies and not so loud at others. if you buy a ported box, you have no choice in the matter. sealed will automatically regulate it self for a fairly good distribution of volume, with a low cutoff frequency.
bandpass requires lots of tuning. it might get really loud at one point, and really sound like crap at others (part of the above problem).
blowing the speakers- in an improperly tuned box, low freequencies can kill your speakers. without a high pass filter there, you might be bassless in a hurry. again, the sealed box basically regulates itself against subsonic frequencies and low sonic notes.
port whistle- annoying feature of, you guessed it, improper ported sub boxes.
is sealed the most efficient? no. but for install, you just match the recommended specs with a box.

How do I install the front speakers? I found the DIY for the Sedan back speakers but can't find anything about front door speakers?...
Also where should I mount the tweeters? The directions with the speakers say that it would be better if the speaker and tweeter are mounted less than like 8 inches from each other. So if I am going to be putting my new components into the stock location would I want to put the tweeter way down there too? Wouldn't I lose a lot of sound with people in the car from it going into their legs?
Thanks in advance. I know you all are great at this stuff especially Mystic and DoubleDeuce.

Rep Power: 306 remove the panel behind the chrome door handle with a small slot screwdriver. remove the 2 screws.
remove door handle arm (the metal thing thatconnects to the chrome door handle).
remove panel underneath the other handle (the one where power locks and windows go). this can be rough, but it's just clipped on. remove the 2 screws inside the handle (deep inside, but they're there).
disconnect and wire harnesses on the door controls (if applicable).
remove mirror sail panel (pops off).
pull door off (pop bolts on bottom are a good way to start, rip those off, then yank up until the door comes off).
as to the tweeter placement, you really won't lose much sound from people or the location. BUT the soundstage will be lower, sounds will come from your feet. putting the tweeter farther away from the woofer will raise the soundstage (if you put it in the door or sail panel) BUT it can sound a little different since the different frequencies are farther apart (assuming you keep the woofer in the stock location). having them together gives you an accurate sound, putting the components at better angles to your ears gives a more real sound.
mounting the tweeters higher personnally made a world of difference to me, but it's all about preference and the sacrifices you're willing to make for a given sound.

Rep Power: 0 I have the infinity 605cs components, I am not totally satified with the sound, what has other people's experience been with these specific components? Any suggestions for upgrades? Or am better off staying with the infinities
