Question Amp suggestions from the experts?

Alright, so I hve these 2 Infinity Refference 12" subs that are rated to handle 300 watts rms each. I ws just wondering what amp would be good to push 300 watts rms per channel to these. I looked through this crutchfiled catalouge that I have and all I see is ___watts @ 2 ohms, ___watts @ 4 ohms (terms I don't understand!) so I really don't know where to begin. Right now I have a perfomance technique amp http://www.ultimate-sounds.com/icbm/icbm771.htm which I think is relly underpowering the subs. I don't wnt to spend too much but any price range is cool. I'll look on ebay to get the best price anyways!

Any help would be apprecited, Thanks.

Thats a rating of what power an amp outputs w/ given resistances.

Go to the jlaudio website for wiring tutorials. If you can follow those things will make a lot more sense.

You need to know the ohm rating for your subs so you can know what load the amplifier needs to handle. Then you can have a better idea of what you're looking for.

Well if you know they are 4 ohm then you look at the amp rating that says ____@4ohms.
If you want to run your subs at 2ohms you need to have them connected to the amp in parallel (Bridged). If you have your subs bridged then you lose the stereo effect.

Audiobahn amps on ebay are pretty good IMO.

Easiest way since they are 4 ohm is to wire them in parallel so you end up w/ a 2 ohm load. Then get an amp that puts max power out into 2 ohms. A class d monoblock would be best.

300rms for each so you want an amp that does around 600 rms @ 2 ohms (half goes to each)

Ones that come to mind:
* Kicker 600.1
* Alpine M500
* JL Audio 500/1
* MTX 801D
* Rockford 501bd

I have a Kicker 400.1 in my Civic and a Alpine M350 in my truck. Both are great. I'd recommend both.

Good luck.

Is there a diagram showing how to wire the subs in parallel?

Thanks

I like Kicker, Rockford, Alpine, JL, MTX, etc .... never had any experience w/ Audiobahn.

Personally for subs go w/ a monoblock class d amp.

This seems to be a popular amp for the price right now.

im in the same situation, got 2 alpine type r 12''s, rated 300rms a piece. you think the hifonics will be better then the kicker 600.1 opr the alpine m500, or the mtx 801d. they are all around the same price on ebay, so i need to know which one to buy. i know the jl is best but it is way expensive.

The hifonics is good bang for the buck.

What is better is mostly subjective and a personal feeling.

My opinion on amps is:

JL
Kicker
Alpine
Rockford
Hifonics
MTX
Kenwood
JBL
Sony

is that from best to worse? the jl is out of the question. the alpine under powers it since it is 500x1 at 14.4volts. the kicker is just right at 600 rms at 2 ohm. and the hifonics over powers it a litlle at 750w rms at 2 ohm and the mtx a little over powers it at 800w rms at 2 ohm. it is a tough decision because they are all between $200-$250. which one is going to sound better and push the subs hardest and cleanest. i would rather have it sound cleaner than louder. I also want it to last. Which one you think would suit me best?

Look at the features to help you decide.

Also a little more power than recommended is ok. I have an Alpine M350 on a pair of JL 8w3's. So my 125rms/250max speakers are getting 175rms/350max. Just don't let them distort and your fine.

Alpine M500
* variable 24db crossover
* subsonic filter

Kicker 600.1
* variable 12db crossover
* subsonic filter
* remote bass control

MTX:
* variable 24db crossover
* remote control capable (not included ????)

Rockford:
* variable 24db crossover
* subsonic filter
* remote bass control

Hifonics:
* variable 24db crossover
* subsonic filter
* remote bass control

To me it looks like the Hifonics and the Rockford have the most features. Then the Alpine and MTX come in after that and the Kicker has the worst crossover of the bunch.

If it were me I'd go w/ the Hifonics or the Rockford (whichever is cheaper).

I'm only talking from experience.......but i would highly suggest the kicker......they are underated and they are top of the line......it is hard to beat the amp.......i have two kicker amps and they have been amazing so far.....so i would highly suggest the kicker amp....but i'll have to put in a good word for JL too they make a damn nice amp......RF used to but they have really gone down hill.......that is only my opinion..

I think kicker would be the best one IMO, but I have to wait a little until I save some more money!

I was just going by features and am in no way knocking Kicker. I have a Kicker 400.1 and a Kicker 150.2 in my car and have absolutely no complaints. They both work beautifully and have never had them overheat or anything. Personally for me I like the shrouds on the side that let you hide all the wires. Makes it look kick ***.

i see the kicker has no subsonic filter and i don't want rockford. will the subsonic filter do anything? i also like how the hifonics amp will give it a little more power, b/c i heard the rms on most amps are not all the time because of lower voltage. So the kicker would not be giving 300rms a sub all the time and i think that will the extra 100 or so watts in the hifonics, i would be getting full power all the time. i just am really questioning hifonmics cuase it is not really name brand and i have not heard of them until recently. also whichever i get i will be getting two of. not the same amp, same brand, b/c same brand together looks better in a custom install. so does the hifonics have an amp to power type r components, a 2ch amp with around 60rms?

I like a steeper crossover IMO.

The subsonic filter helps the sub and amp concentrat on the main freq. It tries to help prevent the sub from playing below a certain freq, like the ones below 20hz you can't hear anyway. Also most ported boxes need a subsonic filter to protect the driver in extreme cases.

Hifonics is good stuff. They just aren't as popular for some reason. I know their stuff used to be rather expensive.

They have a lot of good highs amps too like the Z400 and stuff.
