Anyone reloacte there head unit...
or make it harder for theifs to see?
All of my stuff got jacked this weekend and I want to make sure that my new stuff is hidden out of sight. I still want access to it though but would be cool to get some ideas. Pictures will help too.
Thanks!

Yup, I did the Hidden HU DIY. See my post in the, "indash dvd player and security?" thread. It has pics and some minor details of what I did to hide my indash flipout lcd HU behind a modified OEM faceplate.

You had a very sad setup if they were able to steal your security system, I am just going to have to laugh at that. They make certain things for alarms that help people like you. It is called a pager, or a pain generator....bet you didn't have either of those. Personally I have my alarm hooked to a pager, a pain generator and my air horns.
Just because I threw my two cents in doesn't mean you have to be a **** about it. alarm systems work when they are used properly, you probably just threw your money away on some stupid noisy contraption. Good job. Next time look into it and get a real alarm.

Yeah, a pager does a lot of good when you are sitting in a movie theater. By the time you get out there the damage is done. You know how easy it is to reach under and pop the hood on a 7th gen and pop the hood? VERY easy. You know how easy it is to pull the siren out? Very easy. Guess what happens when the siren is gone? You got it smarty! No sound to alert anyone of the alarm! And if you have air horns on your Civic you must live in redneck ville where people only want to steal trucks. Bottom line is, if they want it, they WILL get it.
And please stay on topic. Too many threads get so far off topic cause of people like you. My thread topic had nothing to do with alarms nor did I ask for alarm advice. Thanks though.

something like this...
http://www.espionage-store.com/auto.html
i personally cannot attest as to whether these work or not though.
tint your windows if they aren't, i don't know how dark you can get in michigan, but it might help. you can put a lot of HU's by the e-brake, or the glove compartment, with some modification and wire lengthening. or the OEM faceplate diy. all have been discussed before, just search for some of those terms

the pain generators are probably the little piezo sirens that you put in car. As far as relocating your HU goes, I would do the Hidden HU DIY mentioned above. If I was worried about it that always seemed like the best solution to me. relocating your HU will be a pain, and I don't think it would necessarily stop thieves.

take the face off the OEM radio, and motorize it in front of the aftermarket HU, there was a DIY somewhere. just have to sink the aftermarket hu in some so that the OEM hu is flush with the dash.
I haven't seen a motorized DIY, I've seen a different one, and I've seen a website for a member who will slice up your old HU for you to make the fake front. But I don't remember any motorized one.

that's what i mean, use the DIY, and motorize it. wouldn't be hard, especially if you had an old hu lying around with motorized faceplate that you didn't use anymore.

motorization would be harder than you think... youd have to fabricate gears, monting points for motors, tracks for it to slide on, and youd need a knowledge of motorization... either you know how to do it and have the resources to, or its a waste of money... i only know of about 10 people in the country that could build that in a reasonable time and with good quality, 2 of which i know personally... and theyd prolly charge you a few grand to do it.

c'mon now ludlam, it isn't that hard now. the trick is sinking the actual HU enough to accept the factory face over it and it to be flush with the dash. i took gears out of an old clarion deck and used them on an install i did for a friend about 3 months ago. took about 5 hours to do, after counter sinking the working hu.

You don't what you are talking about. Any alarm no matter the brand or price is only as good as the install. 90% of alarms can be removed and bypasses in under a minute. Unless someone spends extra $ for a real install, alarms are for convenience features.
Pain generators are big waste of money. Not loud and very directional.
As for motorized retracting radios, Blitzsafe sold a kit in the late 80's, early 90's that slid the radio out from behind a door. The radio mounted into a sleeve with servo mounted on the back. That sleeve slid inside of an outer sleeve. The outer sleeve had a slot on the back for a cam that attached to the servo to slide side to side. The servo would rotate the cam gear, and force the inner sleeve in and out.

oh yeah, and if they can find my siren in my bay and then rip off my bumper whole and disconnect my ar horn also in a movie parking lot, with people looking at them. Then they deserve my system cause they are really ballsy or really dumb.

WTF noob, I am pretty sure I know exactly what I am talking about. Any alarm is good, but some are apparently better than others. Why the hell would you pay for a crappy install? I guarantee you it would take you a lot longer than a minute to stop my siren, plus you would have a lot of fun with those pain generator blasting at you, with one under each seat facing forward they are very very loud, trust me, I tested them. Dumbshits like you should not critisize people they dont know. For all you know I could be an installer.
There might be a little damage done but a lot of the time in a movie theatre there are people around who will at least look and see what alarm is going off, especially if I have air horns going off, it attracts a lot of attention. Airhorns are big attention getter and that was the purpose of them so you can come over here and suck my left nut you stupid ****. I am not from a hick town. about not asking about security systems, I didnt say anything about it until you told me they stole yours, which means you were a dumbass when you installed it or you were a moron for having some other dubass install it. Dont chew me out, this was not getting off topic. There have been plenty of posts about relocating, you can search next time and find all the info you need. I can throw in my 2 cents and there is no reason to critisize me about it.

You are obviously a moron who's purpose is talking **** to others. You do not understand the basic principle of an alarm and have never installed or you would have kept your mouth shut. Alarms are installed with ease in mind, not protecting the car. No one is going to put the effort in at the prices alarms are installed for. Simple concept, you get what you pay for in labor. To do a quality install it will take 1-2 days, very few people are willing to pay for it. Pain generators are not loud, and won't bother anyone, just extra $ for the shop. I have putting alarms in for 16 years, I have seen all the gimmicks that weak minded people like you fall for. You are too stupid to be an installer, oh wait Circuit City and Best Buy don't count. when you get your head out your *** and grow up maybe you can contribute positively instead of being an *******.
