front speakers question
im going to replace my stock ones soon because the one on the passenger door has a shitty sound, i dont know if i blew something or whatever. But anyway....whats a good brand you recommend? My friend said he could hook me up with crutchfields for pretty cheap, and i know Rockfords are good. Also i have a sedan so what size should i get? I know they're 6.5" but what depth should be used? Anyone know how much it'll cost? Thanks
I guess it depends on your budget and how much you can spend. I can't give you an exact measurement on the depth because I don't remember what it is for our cars but you can go to http://www.crutchfield.com and look it up. But I'd strongly recommend components rather than coax speakers simply because of the sound quality difference.. just my two cents though.. Good brands are Infinity, JL Audio, Boston Acoustic, MB Quartz, and Kenwood.. They can cost anywhere from $300-$1000 for a pair.
If your doing this with no amp, and you just want an easy install, stick with coax speakers. You can get a decent set for around $150. Go to stores in your area and listen to different brands and models to determine what YOU like.
I think the max depth is like one and a half inches (if you dont use a spacer) . And you can get a really good pair for under 300. If you see a pair you like at crutchfield, go to etronics.com. you will probably find the same pair for like half the price. i just put in a new rockford component set for 140. crutchfield wanted 250 for the same set. I am very happy with them.
the alpine type r components are on ebay for only like $120, and they only need 50w rms. You will need a spacer b/c they are like a little under 2", but that isn't a problem. you could probably also get a alpine amp to power em' for like $140 also on ebay (not the v12 series.)

dude crutchfield doesn't make speakers, that's like saying you're getting a pair of best buys, what speakers are you going to get from your friend?
and with that budget get a new HU if you are still running stock.

I have infinity 2-ways in the doors. They're nice cause you can rotate the tweeter. I also have tweeters and they sound really nice. Good highs and mids, especially with dynamat.

i was gonna say that to my knowledge crutchfield doesn't make speakers, but it's already been said. if you have any shops in your area, i would say, as mystic has, to go to one of them and listen to what they have, with your own cd's, so you can see what sounds the best with your music. if there is no shop in your area, you can go for many reputable brands such as JL, MB Quart, Focal, Boston Acoustic, Infinity, Rainbows, there are a wide array of speakers you can choose from. determine your budget, and see what fits in both it, and your listening tastes. i'd say go components, with amplification of course, but if not, you can find some co-ax speakers that will still sound good for within your budget and listening tendancies.
