Question Technical Question

How many amps typically run through speakers? I'm messing around on Circuit Maker, and I've got everything set up the same way I do at home, but when I hook up the multimeter in the simulation, I get a reading of 8.39 mega-ohms....and if I could drop the current, I could get it closer to reality.

What should I put the settings at so I can drop this down to about 4 ohms on the simulation? I've got it set at 14.4 v right now, which is about what my stereo runs at....any help?

yes your AMP gets 14.4Vdc. However the signal the speakers get is an AC signal. speakers (usu.) have an impedence of 4 ohms (most know this).

power=voltage times current (use RMS values here). or current squared times impedence also works. so a 50W RMS rated speaker at max would be getting 3-4 amps. this means the RMS voltage is about 13-14V RMS (not peak to peak)

you're probably just measuring the resistance of the source (that voltage) all batterys have some internal resistance which burns power, hence why they don't last forever, it is typically a really large number like what you said.

OHHH.....ok, thanks! Yeah, it was measuring the power of the source in the simulation, because there was no signal (forgot to add the signal generator), so it was like hooking a speaker up to a car battery.
