Question HU Suggestions

I need a new HU. I'm looking to spend around $200 - $300. I don't have subs and am not looking to getting any soon. I would like it to have a blue display, a detachable face, and play mp3's. Right now im looking at the Sony CDX-MP40. But im looking for help from those of you who are more into ICE than I am. thnx for the help.

From what I know of it, remember one equation
Sony=Garbage.

Look into the Alpine CDA-9807. That's blue, mp3's and the works. It's not a detatchable face tho.

I've got a Pioneer DEH-P7500MP. I love every bit of it so far. The Organic EL display makes things even cooler. MP3's, detatchable face and everything.

Those are the two I'd most highly recommend for your price range and ready to roll when you do drop in subs and amp. Check the prices on ebay.

One of my friends from college had a pioneer deck, he used it for about two years when the face started falling apart on the functions that he used the most such as volume and track advance functions. Has anybody else known this to happen? It's kind of like when you have one of those old remotes from a tv that's lets say 8 or 9 years old, the plastic/rubber wears off and next think you know you are touching little plastic tabs when you are turning the volume up. Are the new pioneer decks any better? My friends deck was 3 yrs old or so as it would be now, i graduated from college almost 2 yrs ago so the model number from my friends hu would be 3 or 4 yrs back.

That happened to my friend's pioneer as well...also about 3 years old. I think it just depends on what type of buttons you have....his has those rubber ones that were real thin and just had the plastic under em, the rubber wore away. I *think* most of the new Pioneer units have plastic buttons, so that won't happen.

Also, the 9807 DOES have a detachable face. I like Alpine HU's, i've found them to the be the most user friendly, and the new MP3 engine on them allows you to search for other songs on your CD while the current song is playing....so no gaps in your music while you search through 100 songs. It supports WMA files as well...just another +. So for the features you want and the price range you've got, I would go for that one.
