speaker trouble

I got a new stereo and speakers for my car a 2003 civic coupe, and im having some problems. So far all I just installed the hu, and attempted to install the front speakers, but the hole is to small. So what will fix this, do i need a spacer or do i have to cut the hole bigger? What do most of you do?

Also has anybody used polk, db650 and db690, how did they install, how do you like them?

Yea the db's are to deep, you have to make at 1/2 spacer for that speaker. I used to have them(db650). They could not handle the power i was feeding them(120 watt rms) so i upgraded to polk momo 6 1/2 components. But i Love Polk for their mids and highs.

you should be able to get a spacer from any best buy or circuit, or just build a ring out of MDF

to cut the hole bigger, teh easiest way i found (thanks to another member here) was to cut the hole with a dremel or sawzall, like rays comming off the sun of the hole. make a bunch, 1-2 inches apart, then you cna hammer the tabs back.

rreal easy, widens the hole alot.

no, you need the spacers no matter what. you may find you will need to widen the hole as well....

Ok, so I got spacers from best buy, they gave me 1”, which was to big, so i had to return those and get 1/2. However they didn't have them, nor did circuit city or 6th ave, so I had to make my own. The front polks (db650) went it fine with the spacers. For the rear polks (db690), the left speaker touches the spring for the trunk just before it closes, I don’t think that’s a big deal though. What do you think?

Other then that it sounds pretty good I have to adjust the levels but im to tired right now.

exedotbat,

I'm having trouble getting my 03 sedan lx doors off, they are not like my 01 coupe's were, the handle is different, where do I start? I can take off the sail part in the upper front portion, the two screws and the door latch, but I can't find out how to take apart the handle assembly that houses the power window controls. I've looked at the DIY and it shows pictures of my 01 assembly. I also searched and couldn't find anything regarding the 03's. Help please!

usually the powerwindow controls on cars unclips out. sometimes they slide over before lifting out.

knowing honda, it probably clips, but I would be surprised if it unscrewed out.

the handle itself usually there is a single screw holding the trim on then two screws holding the door handle to the frame. or vice versa, ive seen both.

if there is no screw, then i would jsut assume there is nothing holding the piece in and itll will clip out direct.

but as to yoru specific door, i cant say for sure, other than im surprised you don thave the same assembly as 2k1. with the single screw in the bottom of the handle, then two holding the panel to the door under. its seriously not liek that?

Yep, it's not like it. You know the little single screw in the bottom where you pop out the little plastic piece first? Well it's not there because there is a hole there, meaning that there is no trim there, it is just where you grab to close the handle. It is probably my only hold up as the rest of the door comes apart the same as the 2k1 except for that. I will try to take a picture or find one tomorrow morning.

i don't think the sedan doors have changed from 02 to 03. all i have to do is pull down on the plastic piece, the bottom of the handle. yeah, it did suck big getting it off the first time, but i got em. screwdriver in a t-shirt in the front of the door handle (the part facing the steering wheel, so you can't see it if you scratch) oughta do it. once you get it started in the front, just kinda work it around carefully. there is NO screw holding it in place, just the 2 behind the panel that hold the door cover on.

i know HU's are diifferent, but didn't think doors were.

Maybe that's it, I had a 01 coupe and now have a 03 sedan, and the doors are definitely not the same. The dudes at Circuit City said that they hadn't seen that door setup on my car before and the previous ones were different. I'll try your trick DoubleDeuce2k2, but do you have any photos as to where to put the "screwdriver in the T - Shirt"?

lol just wrap something around the tip of the screwdriver so you don't scratch anything if it slips. a towel might even work

Well the 2003 Sedan is definitely different in removing the front panel for the speakers. I finally mustered up enough ***** to just put force on the damn handle and the portion that is underneath snapped off, not the powerwindow control portion. It is actually connected to the door with screws and you don't need to remove them to get the panel off. There were the two screws that hold the handle in just like on my 01 COUPE and the rest was the same. Instead of the T-Shirt, I wrapped the shiite out of the smallest flathead with electrical tape as recommened by some audio forum. No scratches, 1 hr to do both doors. Another thing that I am pumped about is that the rear speakers don't have the ingenious trunk spring below them like on my 01, so I have unlimited depth mount, anyone know what the tweeter protrusion limitation is? Anyone have a good recommendation on a speaker that will fit back there but give me some decent base?

jl 6w0 with a makeshift sealed enclosure under it. this can be as simple as a foam cup, to an mdf box bolted underneath, to a foam cup soaked in fiberglass resin.

but restricting the backwave will definitely help your bass response.
