You may not...It all depnds on if your lights flicker.....I had 2 HE2 12 in rfs and a 700s amp and I didnt need a cap....My lights didnt flicker at all. Make sure you use really good cables and wires.....when you install the system

i'm running 2 JL w3's at 600 watts (RMS), wired down to 1ohm, and do not need a cap. set up your system, and put you system to the limit while you watch your headlights. you can always add one later.

I'm running my subs on a 1400 watt amp and my lights dont blink. the amp is capable of 370watts x 2 @ 2 ohms (RMS). Buying a cap is a future project. For now i don't cranck the radio high enough to require a cap.

Lud's right, caps are never necessary. If your lights dim and you don't want them to then a cap may help you out a little bit.
I'm running around 1000 RMS with my two amps right now, the lights dim slightly when the bass hits, at night when the interior light is on and the bass hits the interior light dims quite a bit but it's nothing that bother me too much. I don't even really notice it anymore, i just don't pay attention. Other people say "hey did you know your lights dim" and i say "yup".

theres actualy no audible difference with a capacitor, and anyone who believes there is, seek out a guy on the east coast, his name is Richard Clark.
if you prove to him in person that a cap makes an audible difference through a blind test, He will giv eyou a check for $5000 right on the spot.
as to what a cap is good for, you guys are my heros, said it better than i could have

There is NO WAY a STOCK electrical system (on a civic) can provide 1900 watts RMS(were talking 4000 watts peak here), You would need an extra an extra battery or ATLEAST a 140 amp Alternator. You must have had DISTORTION FROM HELL!IM ASSUMING this is on your 2001-02-03 stock civic, you didnt mention any 12V upgrades.

he posts on elitecaraudio. if you can also tell the difference between amplifiers keeping all other factors identical, thats another 10 grand in your pocket.
i dont believe he is too far from you, he is in one of those east coast states. even if you decide to fly out there, 15 grand is more than compensation, right?
seriosuly, check out www.elitecaraudio.com, ask abotu his test. you can also find the hundreds of people on that forum who have flocked to his test and went home emty handed. you cant deny the laws of science
and dizzle, i agree with you completely, theres no way a stock alternator alone can handle 1900 rms or power, even far less. even a 500 watt amplifier we both know can impact load the electrical system more than 70 amps!
however, we also both know the extra draw gets eaten up by the batery. so no worries! the car can easy handle very high powerloads, for a time.
