Speakers: Type R, but go with components (I don't think there's even a type-S component set, so...not much choice there)
Subs: Neither. Type E is a lot cheaper, and just as good. The only real difference is the E's are rated at 50w less than the R's for RMS power (I think, I'd have to check)...but if you're going for a certain look, you might as well match everything.

I'm gonna have to disagree with evilone on the difference between the TypeE and R...
TypeR:
? Frequency Response:
24Hz ? 2kHz
? Dual Voice Coil Design
? Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone
? High Excursion 1? Santoprene® Surround
? Dual Custom Progressive Nomex® Spiders
? Integrated Tinsel Lead Design
? Custom Cast Aluminum Frame
? Extra Length Extended Pole
? Flared Pole Vent
? Bumped Backplate
? Heat Transfer Plate
? High Strength Brass Voice Coil Bobbin
? Double Stacked Magnets
? Heavy Duty 8ga. Push Terminals
? Oversized Parabolic Dustcap
? Magnetically Optimized Motor Structure
TypeE:
? Frequency Response: 26Hz ? 1kHz
? Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone
? High Excursion 3/4? Santoprene® Surround
? Dual Oversized Nomex® Spiders
? Vented Pole
? Custom High Strength Steel Basket
? Bumped Backplate
? High Strength Brass Voice Coil Bobbin
So for the extra $50 I would get the TypeR...DVC, better terminals, integrated tinsel leads (eliminates the possibility of lead slap), vented coil (keeps heat down, sub lasts longer as a result), the TypeR also has a greater xmax, and can be sealed, ported or bandpass. TypeE is recomended for Sealed or Bandpass only. And you could give the TypeR up to about 600 watts RMS without a problem.
I have two TypeR's at the moment, and I think they sound great. It's a relatively smooth driver, good low end response, and it can definately take a lot of power. I havent heard the TypeE or S so I cant compare them for you.
The TypeR components I heard sounded pretty good for the money. The tweet wasnt overly crisp and had a smoothness to it. Midbass was decent, nothing remarkable.

my friend and his bro have type s and type r and i don't even notice the diff in the subs, at all really :/
I bought a set of 6.5 type s speakers and they have amazing sound quality, I'm thinking about getting the type r components tho.

In a proper install Alpine speakers sound very good. I have 2 pairs of Alpine type-R componets in my car (6.5" in the door and 6.5" in qforms) and I love they way they sound. They have plenty of midbass and the tweeter is very smooth.
I think Mystic wrapped up the difference in the subwoofers, nice job on the comparision.
