Blaupunkt HUs..good or bad
anyone got opinions about Blaupunkt's headunits? company rep? etc. any input helps.
i wouldnt waste my time or money on them. Stereo prices are getting so low, and Im sure with the information youd find on this site you can likely buy a decent one off ebay for cheap and install it yourself (im blonde and installed mine, if i can do it without electrocuting myself im sure you can too
).
Invest in something with a more solid reputation. I personally ONLY buy pioneer head units, and wouldnt recommend anything else. Opt for pioneer premier instead of just basic pioneer since you get an additional year on the warranty and its only like $10 more.

Most get Pioneer HU's w/ the organic displays since they are really bright and can be seen quite well in daylight, not to mention the glare from the **** angle they HU ends up at in our cars.

as of now, there are only 3 standard HU's that ive found to be seen in the day, Some claim the pioneers with the OEL, i couldnt see my 8400, ive heard that the new fosgate unit is totally visible, and my current clarion is PERFECTLY visible when you change the faceplate colors to white.
ALPINE HEAD UNITS ALL THE WAY!!!! sounds perfect... although i got to admit it is pretty hard to make out during day or night... o well.. i had a pioneer and the display was clear day or night.. but id rather stick with the alpine deck

I'm geting the BPV660, it's the cheapest Blaupunkt HU in Crutchfield, but has the highest power and the clearest sound...at least it says it does anyway. If it sucks, it's $150, I can sell it to somebody around town for $175, then get something better. Personally though, I think it'll be ok. Their speakers are pretty decent quality, so their HU's should be, too, right?

hey, get the blaupunkt austin. i just got a brand new one off a friend yesterday, after LJ's reassurance. i installed it this morning. took me just over an hour (i solder my wires like a good boy does) and this HU is loud. its good to my sub. so i'm happy. i got it for under $100 new...on crutchfield...its like 159.00. honestly, i think blaupunkt is one of the better brands out there...especially for the money. everywhere except 7thgen, poeple said blaupunkt was very reputable and respectable.

You can add the new Eclipse 8443 to the list of HU's that are visible in the sunlight.
Just put mine in today and drove around, i could see everything perfectly fine.

Blaupunkts are nice decks. Think about it this way. Blaupunkt has been used in stock VW and Audis for years, so how bad can they be? My boss had an Audi TT and that thing sounded unreal for a factory deck.
I had a Blaupunkt "Tokyo" which was part of their Skyline 70 series (the "70" numbers still are for their top-of-the-line stuff). The display was adjustable left & right as well as up & down; the sound quality was good; but it FAILED me! The remote turn-on screwed up and it had to be sent back to the US repair facility.
I still have it, but it's still in the box. There is an Alpine CDA-7894 in my dash now
Even after all that, I would still recommend the Blaupunkt "San Francisco" CD-71 now that it's down below $300 at theZeb and other places. It's uglier than sin but so many cool toys!
I would have still probably bought it if it had been at this price last year.

Hey man go with Panasnonic...I guarantee you will be satisfied. I have always been satisfied with their stuff. I don't really care for Blaupunkt. All I sell at my audio shop in Texas is Panasonic, everyone I sell to is very happy with the unit. No matter which one it is. So go with Panasonic.

I just found this thread by searching, cuz I'm awesome.
I was looking at a Blaupunkt at crutchfield because it played .mp3s and had subwoofer output. It seems like you can get one of those two options and if you want both it's a lot more expensive.

I had two from Crutchfield, and they suck! The Nevada's RCA's shorted so they warrantied it with a Sacramento?. Well that one's display broke. They were so frustrated that they gave me a merchandise credit. Go with something you won't have to ask about like Kenwood, Nakamichi, or Alpine. By the way, Panasonic does offer a lot of bang for the buck, but they weren't doing Sirius at the time I bought mine, so I opted for a Kenwood.
I wouldn't recommend a blau.. if you're looking for visibility, go with a premier, panasonic, or clarion. If it's features, look at alpine, and kenwood excelon.. and if it's quality, look at eclipse..
Basically all HUs have their pros and cons.. it's just deciding what you want more of.

Don't go Kenwood Excelon, unless you are wanting to go into SPL compititions b/c they are made for high power systems, but I would recommend any Panasonic cd player or Kenwood (not the Excelon)

I am all about Panasonic, I have had over 6 cd players and they all have been Panasonic, I am on cd player number 7 or 8 and it is a Panasonic tv which is damn good quality IMO
I have an eXcelon and my total system is running a measured 600 watts.. well, if we went by the given specs by the manufacturers, it should be 800 watts but hey.. efficiency is a b1tch. It SAYS 300 watts but I'm only getting 220-230 watts out of each amp and it says 200 watts but I'm only getting 140-150 out of that one too.. So I definitely do not have a high powered system (I hit 144dB) but it still works awesome
I just love the cosmetics on the Pansonics.. that Day/Night face that they had.. I don't know if they still make it but that thing looked pretty sweet.
