Tint Delimma
hey guys, i have a tint delimma
i'm located in sacramento, ca. and i want to take my car to the tint shop. this one business, Ameca, operates a mobile only tint service only. he has no shop, and if i wanted to get it done someother place, it would be in his garage of his home. This guy is a one man business, and offers a lifetime gaurentee. his price is 120 + 15. the extra 15 is for a vinyl strip that goes over the dot matrix on the rear windshield. so this totals up to 135.
My other option is going to a well known tint business, Mr Tint. Mr tint is an actual shop, and isn't a one man business. My two brothers went there for their cars, and it still looks good, with the exception of age (fading). Mr tint is pretty well known, and almost all of my friends went there. they charge 135 for tint /w lifetime guarentee, but i dont think they provide a vinyl strip for the dot matrix on the rear windshield. i think they just go over the dot matrix with the tint.
my main concern is whether i need that vinyl strip that goes over the dot matrix or not. right now im leaning more towards mr tint.
what should i do? do i need the vinyl piece? or would it just be fine with tint over the dot matrix? thanks for your help guys.

i'd say get it, cuz i have the tint on the matrix and it looks like crap cuz the matrix does not get all covered by the tintso if u want it al clean looking get the strip, if not, then see how well he can tint it. i need a vinyl strip. so if u kno sites, do tell.

I just have tint and all the dots get cover up. The guy that installed it just took some panels off to be able to get the window all covered.

I have mine tinted right over the dots as well. No problems. As for which company to use, go with Mr. Tint. They are a well established buisness, and if you ever need the warranty work done on your tint, you know where to go. As for the other guy, he may be an upstanding, reliable person, but what happens if you can't find him, or his phone is disconnected. So much for a warranty.
I had mine tinted over the dot matrix and I know what you mean about it looking a little off. The thint doesn't stick perfectly to the black dots so you get a small air buble ring arround the dot only visible from outside and when you're staring at it from 10 inches. If that bothers you than see the vinyl thing, but for me it's just fine. I don't know about this vinyl, I mean, that might have the same effect, or may look stupid if you have a light tint since it's gonna form a perfect line instead of the fade efect that the dot matrix is indeded for.
I don't know, but finally, I would go for a well established place, I mean I'm sure Mr Tint has locations all over the US, if you move in 2 years you have warranty anywhere, I doubt the guy will drive out to whereever you may be.

Yeah, I got my tint a while ago. They said that because of the dot-matrix, the tint won't stick as good in that area and that they'll do their best to make it look good. It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It isn't all that bad. I got 20% all around.
I wish we had that special adhesive that you guys are talking about here, but no one seems to know anything about it.
If I were you, I'd go with Mr. Tint. I have a question about the vinyl thing you mentioned. So there's a vinyl strip for the dot-mtrix and the rest of the window is covered with tint? Wouldn't there be a risk of a visible gap between the vinyl and the tint?

Thanks for all your help!
Lol, that was EXactly what i was thinking.
Im not exactly sure about this becuase I've never actually seen the vinyl strip before. The Ameca guy said it would look a lot better with vinyl strip, so I'm guessing that it probably won't have a noticable gap. Not sure though..
Btw, im going w/ Mr Tint
Again, thanks for all your replies!

Use Mr Tint, the other guys lifetime guarantee is as only as good as he is still doing it ... out of his garage ... he will be gone in 3 months.
i need to save a few bills to get my tint redone a bit darker. what was the special adhesive they used on the dots because my dots are bubbling a bit. how hard is it to shave off the dots to avoid that problem all togehter?
