OEM style lips for sedan
OEM style lips for sedan
hi,
I just got my oem style body lips kit. They are made of ABS plastic.
Is ABS suppose to be really really soft? I mean, mine is really flexible you can twist it!! the material is almost as soft as an eraser...is that alright?
also, do you people install it first then paint it or paint it then install on the car?
I am just wondring if the paint will crack if I paint it then try to install, because the material abs is soft while paint is hard, and if you twist it the paint can crack?
thanks for the feedback

I've got the OEM bodykit on my car.
Usually all bodykits and lips should be painted before install, it probably won't crack either. Mine hasn't or anything so I dunno. I'm pretty sure others would tell you to paint it before installation. its not like you'll be twisting the lip to install it either!

the oem "style kit", if its THAT flexable, its likely not ABS but a urethane blend. when painting. you must use the proper flex additive in the paint mix, and then it will be fine. the plastic code should be imprinted on the backside of the lip kit, to tell you want its made of. itll be 3 letters.
yeah thanks, the seller claim it is abs plastic...and when they ship they wrote abs material as well...
maybe I exagerrate about the flexibility...but normally, how soft is abs?
(assuming the 3 letter material indication is not there, I suspect the kit is from China because I see chinese charactor on it!)

abs usually has a decent amount of play, but is not REAL flexable like urethane. it may be a ABS urethane blend tho. either way, you should have a flex additive in the paint.
ok, thanks...
I better tell the shop to add flex additive.
I know a cheap paint shop. I had my spoiler painted for CD 100$ and according to many people on the site, the paint job can't be good if it is under 300$ US for spoiler and 800$ for lips kits.
I am thinking to go that paint shop again for the cheap price, but then I will get clear aerosol spray coat and coated a few layers myself so the the color will stay on for longtime. Is it good to do that?

I see soo many people are asking about sedan lip kits on other thread so I decided to be big mouth. (but not open new thread wast site space)
I got mine at www.streettyler.com, 460$ C.D total (65$US shipping fee) shipped to Ontario mississauga. The material is ABS and flexible. I think the price is pretty good. I see thread talking about price of 500$ 600$ US so I decided to end people's misary. So, I hope this is good news for people who want the RS lip kit!!
