What the hell is Simoniz?

The VW dealer wants to know if my dad wants this paint coating... supposedly prevents chips and dings, but I'm calling:zbsflag: on them.... Cuz I don't see how some liquid coating can do that... maybe teflon, but I figure if it was a teflon coating they would have just said that... anyway, I think its crap and they want $400 for it, just want to know what it is before I tell my dad for sure that it is BS.

ive heard of something like that... i think its some kind of hard clearcoat that they put on to prevent small dings from pebbles or other road debris.. i dont know how tough it is but there is some shop called invisible shield around here that does it.

My father-in-law's friend bought a VW Jetta a while back, and he got that coating. It actually wasn't a coating. It was that clear 3M tape stuff, that goes on over the leading edge of everything on the front of the car. It's clear stuff, but you can still see where it stops on the hood and the bumper if you look real close. It's like a tape, that's laser cut for the specific vehicle, it doesn't cut or tear, turn yellow, or peel off. It doesn't look that bad, and if you get a good wax job done, they could probably make the cut line a little less obvious, but I don't know. If you're dad is worried about rock chips and the like, then IMO get it. I've seen it live through a winter here with all the gravel they put on the road here, and not a mark in the coating, and no chips in the paint.

*edit* spelling

joski will become famous soon enough
I know that Simoniz is a company.. I bought a chamois made by them.. It was pretty good, but I think that tape coating stuff sounds kinda cool to use. I dunno, just my opinion.

I'd recomend asking them if you could see it on a car first, before you get it though. Some people don't like it. Hope that helps Boiler.
