I have always heard that random technology is the best performance cat that is legal. I also heard from a member here that it comes with a downpipe. I am planning on getting one when I have the money for it.

it has just been released so it isn't on the list. But on one of the new products sidebars it says 01-up civic just released. OH and does anyone know how much they run for?
I ordered the high-flow cat from Lightning Motorsports last week. They're a distributor for Random Technology. The cost shipped to WA was $275.
This is a bolt-on piece that includes OEM design, 2 bungs for the o2 sensors and OEM style mounting flanges and hangers.
I confirmed with Random Technology that it has in fact been test fitted for proper fit.
Will let y'all know what I think of it when I install it.
This will add to the AEM/Apexi intake, DC Header and HKS Hiper exhaust that I already have.

Random Technologies IS one of the better manufacturers of aftermarket cats and other exhaust pieces. They have been around for a while. I’ve seen their stuff in some serious race cars namely decked out Dodge Vipers.
I also know for a fact that they make universal fit hi flow cats, which any shop could put on your car, but again you’d have to find one willing to do it for you since it IS illegal unless your stock cat is broken.
Now...
That isn’t to say you would actually want one of these. In fact that cat is the LEAST restrictive part of your entire exhaust system. Unless you have a turbo or some other need to scavenge every bit of backpressure out of your exhaust system as you can, this isn’t going to do much for you but make your car louder, especially if you already have an aftermarket cat back, header and intake.
BUT, if you insist on doing it, this is the best way, considering its CARB legal and doesn’t pollute all sorts of **** out the exhaust like a test pipe.

Yes, the downpipe is welded to the cat. The dimensions are OEM according to the guy I talked to Random Technology. Although, at one point, I believe I was told 2.5" in and 2.0" out. I'll know exactly what it is when I get it. Should be here late this week or early next week.

i have heard that they don't pass smog...
in every state there is a diffrent set amount for a cat to be legal, i think the rule is that there can't be more than 50 holes within a square inch, i can't remember exactly what it is but i have heard they don't comply with it...

Sorry to post so late to this thread.
I did finally receive the Random high-flow cat. Went through the hassle of disconnecting everything to do the install. Got everything lined up and ready to tighten the bolts. AND GUESS WHAT...the damn thing didn't fit.
The downpipe was too short and the horizontal pipe was right up against the sub-frame before I even tighted all the two header to downpipe spring bolts. Angles of the connecting flanges were off as well so the cat part of the assembly was pushed up against the left side of passageway underneath the shifter.
Nonetheless, I said "f*** it!", boxed it up and sent it back. I've gone through these types of fitment issues with DC Sports so I wasn't about to do it again.
I'm getting my money back and am going to stick with stock!

Wow! you sure they sent you the right one. Seems like they sent you a 6thgen one.
RT is a respectable company and I don't see why they would put out a product that was so far off.

Wow, that sucks. I would really like to have this product, but if it has these kinds of fitment issues then to hell with it. I'll buy some Ebay downpipe and weld in a cat myself. Bleh.
Are you sure they sent you the right one? Did it have the right part number and did it say it was for a 7th gen civic?

Yes, it was the correct part #.
C'mon guys. A 6th gen assembly will not fit remotely close.
The assembly from Random was laid out properly and was actually of quality construction. I was very excited to install it but it was not to be. Oh well, someone else can try to get it to work (which would probably require going to an exhaust shop and have the piece re-welded to fit better).

i think that you might have an lx and the cat they made was for an ex? i thought i read somewhere that the exhaust systems differed between the lx and the ex... maybe thats why your having fitment problems..
Let me clarify. I have a 2001 EX Coupe. The Random cat is designed for the 2001+ EX coupe/sedan.
Like I said before, the lay-out was correct but the final welding/pipe length just was not correct enough to fit. My guess is that not enough R&D went into this particular piece. The jigs used to line everything up might have also been slightly off.
So, the application was appropriate for my car. The production of this piece is a one by one, hand-made deal so there's bound to be larger tolerances than if a machine was constructing it. Unfortunately, those tolerances are large enough to result in unsatisfactory fitment.
