They are only as good as the driver is at using them. For the money, I prefer the Passport. That in conjunction with a CB and plenty of trucks on the road, and a staying really alert, can save you some tickets. You just gotta trust the detector and hit the brakes every time it goes off, even if you don't see any cops. Instant on radar can still get you if you are out on the road with not much traffic ahead of you to tip you off.

I don't know how good jammers are, but I think I'd rather have a speeding ticket than a big dollar jammer confiscated along with a big fine.

Jammers from what I have read do not work. I have a cobra XR1010. This is a great budget radar. If you got the dough though go for the passport. With mine there are a lot of false alarms. However, after a while you can distugish these alarms of whether it really is a cop using his/her radar. Also you radar detector is no good if they are not using their radar. So if cops think you are going fast they are gonna pull you over anyway and give a ticket. So basically, radar detectors gives you better odds of avoiding tickets but don't get in the habit of thinking you are invincable because of your radar. 1

That's not always true in the real world. There are other ways they can document speeding or they can find other stuff to ticket you for. It just all depends on many things.

I have the same one but I bought it off a friend with no manual. What does it mean when it flashes 20% 20% 20% 20% 20% (or something like that)& makes that noise that scares the hell out of you? It always does that when im at the theater, but it does it on the road too.

eh. I'm under the impression that they're all illegal.

well, you can buy them. but you're not suppose to use them.. if you get caught with one.. er.. dont they fine you for it and possibly take it away?

I have a Bel Vector 985. It works really well with few false alarms.....and yeah, cops can pull you over if they think you're going too fast and give you a ticket. In some states they have to go through a certification course to learn how to judge how fast you're going and have to be accurate within like +/- 3 mph to pass.....

check out the Phazer II, I have no idea if it really works or not but
Best of all, unless you are a resident of California, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Virginia, Utah, or Washington D.C., using the Phazer II is completely within your legal rights.

Ticket rebate program. If you do get a speeding ticket within the first year while using your Phazer II, they will pay your fine! While the Phazer II is designed to help you avoid speed traps, it is not intended to condone excessive speeding. *For that reason, the manufacturer will only pay tickets where the speed limit was not exceeded by more than 30%, or 15 miles per hour, whichever is less.

While the Phazer II is designed to help you avoid speed traps, it is not intended to condone excessive speeding.
.

Good Luck!

I have had my radar detector for about 3 years and havent been pulled over since i got it
it has saved my tush at least 10-20 times, does give occasional false alarm.
Isnt always useful though, i know that the state patrol is using radar guns that have pauses of 5-10 min that clock you then turn off then can come on at last minute when they are right on ya.
Oh i have a BEL 870

Better yet, if you have the dough. V1 Not as expensive as the Passport SR-7 or SRX.

You can also look here for jammers.
