an LED will give you a HYPERBLINKER...but it will be lit just as stock...if you want to have it only work with the signals, then you will have to modify and you will end up with a VERY fast HYPERBLINKER when you signal...
i say just get them and put them in...regardless of whether it stays lit during 'headlight use'

i believe that he is getting the 7443's for free...thats why i'm talking directly about the 7443 and not the 7440...but yes, a 7440 would work for what i think he is trying to accomplish...

i can get any bulb i want but i want them from the front too, and i dont like that orange all the time ya know, so then it IS possible to do that same mod to the LED bulbs?
then i guess i have another question
do LED bulbs always fit in the stock holes properly?
i dont want to get them and then have them not fit

7440 bulbs dont just clip into the stock socket. you need to modify the socket. or get a 7443 bulb. where are you getting these BTW? i havent seen 7443 LED bulbs in amber anywhere.
the LED bulbs should be the same w/ the contact points, so snipping the contacts for the parking lights should work w/ LEDs as well, just make sure youre snipping off the right contacts.

regluar bulbs being 7440's? or 7443's?
the reason 7440's dont fit in the socket is cause they have this little **** thing on the base of the bulb that the 7443's dont have. so you have to cut/file off some of the plastic off the socket. i doubt that the 7440 bulb will fall out if you can actually wedge it in there...that mo'fo will be in there tight. but i would recommend you still go w/ the 7440 and just clip the 5watt connectors (the ones for the parking lights) and just use those....that way theyll just click in and no problems...and you dont have to worry about cutting off too much of the socket and risking the bulbs actually falling out.

you meant 7443's, right?? because the 7440's only have one lead(21W)...
