Engine Swap
Engine Swap
My uncle has an old Chevy 350 from a Camaro laying around that needs some work, but I was wondering if it was possible to throw it in my Civic. That would be fast as hell!!! I know I would have to make a few mods, but how hard would it be?
Thanks!

is this for real . anyway, it would cost a ton! better off going turbo or k20 swap. although a chevy engine in a civic would be cool, i guess.
sure lets take hondas relaiability and good gas mileage and toss it out the window and replace it with a chevy engine
Edit: And just to b helpful Of course it can b done if you got a good team of mechanics and alot of $$$$ to pay them

And then theres the fact that there is NO ROOM for the trans.. ANYWHERE!. And even if you managed to get it in there, you still have to make it RWD. Would it REALLY cost that much to do? I mean, what is a ball park figure if I already have the engine?
Have you EVER seen a Honda with a Chevy engine? It would probably be running 10s!
Just imagine the looks you would get at stoplights when u pull up with a roaring V8 in a Civic.
The 350 is probably one of the moist common performance engines, so I am sure there are plenty of parts available for the swap.
I think I will call around and get some estimates.
Also do you think it would fit without any problems??
And would I be able to keep the stock automatic?
Thanks!

I think you would have to get parts specifically made for it. But I seriously doubt that you could fit it in that car. You have to cut out some of the hood just to fit K20. It would be a badass car don't get me wrong and would eat z28's lunch but you have to have the money. Even with the engine, it will still be expensive. If you can do it, I would have to see it so I could

Dude you cant keep the stock tranny. First of all your gonna try and mount a tranny designed for a I-4 to a V-8 block never happen. 2nd of all maybe you never seen a 350 attached to a tranny out of a car, take my word for it the end of the tranny would touch the back seat. Third of all there are no cars (that im aware of) that have a chevy 350 and FWD.
Not to diss on you but i think its time you learn a little about cars. Try subscribing to a few of many of the car magazines out there (Vhevy High Performance,Car Craft,Hot Rod, Super Street , Import Tuner any of them ).

Lets see..... The engine is about 2 feet. So there goes the whole engine bay right there. Now bolt on the tranny which is another 3 feet. Cut the crossmember of the frame infront of the firewall so you can put the tranny through. Get a custom drive shaft. Re-enforce the back of the car so you can bolt on a rear end, which is also gonna be custom. Probably gonna have to lose the hood completely to fit the intake manifold on, cool it off, get all the accessories in there.
Here's a better cheaper idea. Rebuild the engine. Buy an older F-body (they're a dime a dozen), get new heads, intake manifold, internals, cam, a 9 inch rear end and beefy tranny, go run 12's.

Here's a thought, even if you could fit the big camaro engine in a civic, wouldn't it be illegal? i don't think you'll be able to pass emissions. But if you've got enough money to fit a big *** engine into a small car with a small engine chassis, then I suggest you do it. If I could do that I would be goin crazy.
Ya, thats no problem, you can do all of the stuff you said. Assuming you have enough money. Second answer, can you do it? No, not in a million billion years. Anyone who asks if a stock Civic automatic transmission can bolt on to a 350 big block is not going to be capable of more than taking his flintstones vitamins everyday.
