oil/filter question

is it recommanded by dealers or manual to change the oil and filter at the same time?? somehow i always thought we do the oil change at 5k then oil filter every 10k..... i have pretty much gone to Mr.lube all the cars life and they have only recommanded to change the filter when its actually dirty..... sorry newbie question... just wanna be clear for the future.

um you should change your oil filter every time you change your oil. you should change your air filter only when it is dirty ie. every 10,000 miles.

I change the oil filter every time I change my oil, at the very least it wouldn't hurt. Just IMO. I'm not sure where you live but where ever I go to change my oil they always change the filter also.

I was taught to change the filter at the same time as the oil.

Every dealer i have been to, to have the oil changed, has done both at the same time

Always change the filter whenever you change the oil. There's about 3/4 quart of dirty oil still remaining in the filter.
