just got a passport 8500, questions about mounting

i think its kinda fugly to have it mounted on the windshield and i'd rather not get it jacked, so i was wondering does it work ok if i just have it in the lower pocket right above the cup holder? would it still work as effectively? what about custom mounting locations? i do want to hardwire it but dont know where i should have the thing.

Nice choice, probably the best one on the market.

Hardwire with your accessory and mount it ON your dashboard with some velcro strips, that way all you have to do is pull it off the dash, and leave the power line in place. A lot easier than worrying about those stupid suction cups every time you have to take it out.

I agree with OmegaBlue's idea. My 8500 is mounted on the windshield and i slide it off the bracket when i park my car. So before V1 lovers jump on this thread, i would like to say that the Passport 8500 is the Best FOR THE MONEY

No, your new investment would not work very well mounted in your pocket because it wouldn't be able to receive any of the cops' radar waves. I used to have mine suction cupped onto the windsheild and I had a hardwiring thing going under the center console trim tapping power from the cd player. It worked pretty well and there was only 4 inches or so of exposed wire.

That's total BS. I had mine under the damn seat in my T/A and it still went off everytime there was a cop with the gun on me. It can pickup basically anywhere. My friend has his mounted in his glove box and it still works. No cops down here use laser so we don't worry about it.

BTW, K40 radar detectors own every other detector on the market. It can't be beat.

Keep it on the windshield. On dash not good enough. You need all the distance you can get. When you park, just slip the detector out of the bracket and put it under the seat, or take it with you. That's why they made them smaller with the quick detach bracket.

so ummm... yea i'd rather have it mounted below... but it went off when a cop was behind me but when it went ahead of me it was a very small detection until i raised it.... is there any other option that might work as well hard wired.. i really dont like it on the dash or hanging from the window.. actually could i separate the laser and the front face and maybe plant it in that fog light button area
